About the Author
A bestselling author of historical and paranormal erotic romance, Monica Burns penned her first short romance story at the age of nine when she selected the pseudonym she uses today. Her historical erotic romances have earned her the 2011 RT BookReviews Reviewers Choice Award and the 2012 Gayle Wilson Heart of Excellence Award for Pleasure Me. She is also the recipient of the prestigious paranormal romance award, the 2011 PRISM Best of the Best award for Assassin's Heart. From the days when she hid her stories from her sisters to her first completed full-length manuscript, she always believed in her dream despite rejections and setbacks. A workaholic wife and mother, Monica believes it's possible for the good guy to win if they work hard enough.
Monica is a survivor, and it's a topic she has become well versed in. A survivor of date rape at the age of 19, writing erotic romance has aided her in the life-long process of healing. Her writing has helped her reclaim some of her self-worth, and you can read her story here.
Monica has suffered from bipolar disorder since childhood, but was not diagnosed until much later in life. The condition according to the National Institute of Mental Health affects 5.7 million American adults or about 2.6% of the population (18 years and older).
Her most recent tale of survival is her diagnosis of the genetic disorder Long QT syndrome and subsequent heart defibrillator implant. Her determination to overcome these challenging life experiences is a reflection of her belief that there truly are happily ever afters. Writing romance is a therapeutic process as it allows Monica to explore the themes of hope, trust and love in her work. She believes romance books empower women to believe in themselves and that their only limitations are the ones they set for themselves.
Monica holds a bachelors of science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Mass Communications.

When Quentin and Sophie develop feelings for each other after striking their bargain, that, to me, was the best feature of the book. It was utterly believable and realistic and gave a poignant, romantic feel to the story. Other pros in the story involved wonderful character development which describes the injustices done to both main characters by Eleanor and her father, all for the sake of greed and selflessness. The book has a great cast of characters, including Spencer, Sophie's younger stepbrother, and Fischer, Quentin's favorite and loyal manservant- who both play very supportive roles for them when Quentin and Sophie reach low points in their lives. The couple's way of dealing with the critical society that they're in was also dignified, showing Quentin's willingness to prove his love for Sophie and also his innocence in a plot that involves Eleanor. The romance, redemption, sacrifice and self-preservation in the book between the couple is really passionate and touching. You can literally sense the deep emotions coming off of the pages. Not bad for a relationship that literally started because of a revenge plot, right?
I had no misgivings about the book. However, I felt that Sophie should have maybe fought back more when it came to Eleanor who always seemed to have something caustic to say to her. Talk about unpleasant, self-centered characters! If anyone had a sister like that, there would have been a fight on their hands for sure! For the most part, Sophie did handle herself very well when it came to her. In many ways, she came off as very dignified in their dealings. In the end, of course, she got the one thing that Eleanor had always coveted- Quentin and his title which said volumes.
Overall, the book was wonderful and better than expected for the younger man/older woman theme. Somehow, that worked out well because the hero turned out to be very mature, intelligent, cunning, protective, passionate and great in the sack. He was also unafraid or embarrassed to show off his feelings for Sophie in pursuit of the truth. How often do we see men like that in real life? It's nice to, at least, see a great example of one in a novel. I will be reading this again in the near future as Love's Revenge has become a permanent part of my kindle library. Highly recommended.
I was cringing at Sophie's sister's heinous interference and driving a wedge between Sophie and Quentin. What a witch! Thank goodness for Spencer giving Quentin good advice! Overall I liked this book and would read more by this author.
Sophie is a much older woman, who decides that she wants to have a small taste of life before it's too late, and so she approaches Quentin Blackwell with a proposition that will allow him to win back all that was taken from him and allow her a measure of if not happiness, peace and contentment. Both Sophie though and Quentin find so much more than they bargained for in each other.
This was my first book by the author and I enjoyed it very much. Sophie is a heroine with backbone and Quentin is a man of honour and together they make sparks fly!
