The storyline kept me so involved with the character of Enya and her travel back in time, that I found myself not able to stop until I finished the book. I had to find out what happened next.
The story takes place in modern time when the main character Enya decides to go home to Australia after her mother dies. She hadn't been home since she was a young child.
Enya has an accident during a lightning storm that leaves her unconscious. When she wakes up and gets well, she discovers it is 1899. I loved following her daily life. The author's descriptions of the countryside made me feel as though I was there with her. Will Enya want to go back to her own time, if that's even possible, or be content to adapt to her new life?
I found myself becoming very emotional in parts of the story, as events tested the characters strength and showed how they relied on their faith. It showed how even strong faith can sometimes falter when a person suffers great loss..
Without giving away any spoilers, I was pleasantly surprised by the ending. I can't wait to read more of her books.
I liked the book, but I didn't love it. I was clean and completely appropriate for any age. It was also very sweet.
It's very short. It took me maybe 2 hours to finish. And I think the author could have taken more time to develope the characters a bit more. We had very little background of any of the characters. I was a bit confused with what the package really was telling her.
As with many of these 'free for a review' books, it hasn't been properly edited. And there are many typos and other errors that drove me crazy. And some of those might possibly be that the author is not from the US and some things are said, spelled or typed differently than what we're used to. However, I've had no problems with reading books from Canada, England, Ireland or Scotland from any other author. I think a professional editor is badly needed. Spell check doesn't find misused words, improper uses of 's or s, etc.
Lastly, the end bothered me. **Warning I'm going to mess up the end for some of you.** But as Christians, we don't believe in reincarnation. While that is NOT what the author called it, that's really what was described. And that bothered me. We have one soul and after our earthly death there are only two possible places for our soul. But coming back here in a human body again isn't one such option. And it was clear the author wanted to portray a book clearly from a Christian perspective. Which I liked.
Overall, I liked the book. It was a sweet story and quick read. I think a tween or teen would love it.
I was given this book for my honest review.
How would you feel to receive a letter from your mother who had been dead for a year? It certainly would shake you up and this is what happened to Enya.
Returning to the outback family roots brings many surprises to a young woman who seeks fulfilment. This is a delightful story full of romance, suspense, friendship, loyalty, and the value of family thrown back tin time.
