I found the romance and suspense of this novel compelling. Second-chance romance is not my favourite trope, but Ms. Yeko handled it differently to how I’ve read it before and consequently, I found it refreshing and appealing. On this point the novel is a stand out and perhaps that’s the reason for the award?
As with the first two books, I found the hero and heroine likeable, and the hero in particular, very heroic. I love that in all three books in the series, I loved the heroes. They were nice, protective, heroic guys without being bossy, dominating alphas. They were the kind of man a woman could love in real life.
I’ve now listened to all 3 stories in this series on Audible. Author Cheryl Yeko consistently wrote likeable main characters, and compelling romantic suspense. I’ll happily read any novel she writes in future.
Throughout the series, narrator Alan Taylor’s voice and characterisations were wonderful and easy to listen to, even when he was reading from the heroines’ points of view. I look forward to hearing him narrate again. Both he and Cheryl Yeko are happy discoveries for me.
This is a shorter story, more than a novella, but easy to read in one sitting. And I didn’t want to put this one down once I started, so I made sure I had a couple free hours without disruption. The love story within this suspense is a heartwarming tale of second chances, even from two people with past mistakes – and it just makes them human, believable and likeable. Great story. She's been raising her daughter now, alone, for a while, working part time and going to nursing school when she suddenly starts receiving notes and presents from an unknown stalker. The only person she can think of calling is Stan. Even though their relationship ended badly, Shelly knows that she can trust Stan.
Stan knows that he will do anything to protect Shelly and her daughter from whoever is stalking her, because he never stopped loving her!
This author is new to me but, one I will definitely read again!
Heat Level 4
I started reading this last night, intending to read a bit of it, just to get a bit ahead for today. Instead, I found myself finishing the last page somewhere around 3 am, and not regretting a moment of it. The story is a good one, the characters are ones that you care about, and it is a story line that definitely resonates in part with me.
I will be seeking out books in this series and from this author from this point on!
