Hallie Gilbert has had an entirely awful past year. Only dire circumstances would make her even consider returning to her family's Colby Cottage. It is the family's summer home in Sandwich, NH. But ten years later, she is returning to where she vowed never to return. It is located adjacent to the Summerhaven Camp, and Ian who shattered her young heart all that time ago. Yet she and her young daughter need a place they can regroup and figure out what happens next. Her husband of 5 years has left her. Her four year old daughter has stopped talking to her. Add on that she had to sell all she owned to pay off her husbands huge debt. Plus the once beautiful Colby Cottage is in ruins. And the only available help insight is one Ian Haven.
Back track ten years and Ian is madly in love with Halcyon Gilbert. He knew it would take great effort to turn a summer love into a forever love. But he could not even picture another girl he would love or want forever. Fate interrupted their destined romance, and split them apart for years. Ian turned to drink and hit rock bottom. Ian was grateful for the love and encouragement of his siblings. Not only achieving sobriety but maintaining it. It would be a life time battle. It was all about change: dropping bad habits and replacing them with good ones. Hallie was the only true love of Ian's life. The one and only, so if she and his daughter needed him then he would be there if only to make amends!
The truth was, she'd been his all along, and he's been hers. Maybe they just had a difficult detour to the way to forever. I loved how this all ended up, but must read to understand it all! But in the end LOVING IRISH was the greatest treasure!
There is one more book in this series and that is CATCHING IRISH. It is Finian Kelley and Tate Jennings story, and they meet at a wedding, but that doesn't mean that romance was the only thing on their minds. Coming in August!
Ten years ago, Ian and Hallie had plans to spend the night together for Hallie’s seventeenth birthday. When things go awry and all their plans fall apart, they are both left with a life of devastation. After a failed marriage, Hallie is moving back to her family’s cottage next door to Summerhaven and unfortunately in very close proximity to Ian. With her daughter struggling and a house in ruin, the last thing she wants to contend with is the man that had once held all her hopes and dreams.
I loved this story so much! Ian had been completely broken from that one fateful night and was finally putting his life together. Despite the guilt he carried on his shoulders, it was his undying adoration of Hallie that made me love him so much. It never wavered, always remaining a constant in his life throughout the last decade. Man, what’s not to love about a man who will never let his woman go?
My heart hurt for both Ian and Hallie as the events from years ago led them onto different paths, each destructive in its own way. I wanted to rant and rave when given the full picture of that night through flashbacks. This book had so much angst from the past that bled over into the present. My heart HURT!!!
This story was wonderfully laid out and beautifully written. The characters are well developed and their actions were based solidly on their circumstances. Secondary characters don’t carry a lot of the weight, but we are introduced to a promising new hero and his heroine. Jenny, Hallie’s daughter, does help the plot as her own struggles, and Ian’s ability to help her, cause Hallie to open her heart a bit. I felt her character was consistent with that of a four year old and I loved watching her come to life again.
I won’t go into it here in order to keep it spoiler free, but I will say that once the conflict was fully exposed and dealt with, this couple didn’t waste any time in correcting their ten year separation. Overall, this is a very emotional read that I absolutely loved. Each book in the Summerhaven Trio series has pulled me in further and further and now I’m ready for the next one!
“He just had to be built like some superhuman action hero, complete with impossibly long, black eyelashes and the greenest eyes God had ever made.
“Damn it,” she muttered. “You couldn’t make him just a little ugly? Some scars? Or a hunchback?” She shook her head. “Maybe he limps. Or has some disgusting flatulence problem.” Thinking about Ian walking around with a cloud of fart smell following him made her grin.”
Ian Haven has been fighting demons and is getting his second chance. A recovering alcoholic, Ian is all about redeeming himself and making amends, but Hallie has her own burdens and isn’t quite ready to forgive and forget.
“...when you love as teens, as wildly and as passionately as they did, it’s not something you ever forget or that dies an easy death.”
Loving Irish is a story that just melted my heart. It was so easy to fall into and be completely absorbed. I started reading and didn’t want to put down my e-reader until the very last page.
“I still believe in us. I—I believe in us, Halcyon. And if I love you hard enough, and long enough, with my entire heart and my entire soul, I believe you’ll love me back. You’ll find a way to love me again.”
This has absolutely become my new favorite Katy Regnery book. I never want this series to end! Maybe some novellas to give us some glimpses into the lives of my favorite triplets???
