I've never been so emotionally invested in a character before. It tugged on my heart whenever Lakyn underwent withdrawals and there were times I had to put the book down because I had to steel myself for what was coming. I especially loved how the author developed Lakyn and Scott's character. The pacing was just right and it didn't feel rushed. It was an honour to be able to read Loving Lakyn.
Loving Lakyn is not for the sensitive and soft of the heart. Lakyn being a very mature character for his age brings a level of understanding to teenage life not often perceived, not overly emotional yet not detached from reality. In my fair share of experience reading stories of this theme, I applaud Charlotte Reagan for this creation for it had me charmed by the end of the first chapter and wanting to share and discuss the book with some of my closest friends whom I know would appreciate this book very much.
An incredible story about second chances and how love and acceptance can change the world one individual at a time.
Okay I absolutely adored this book. I loved how the author seemed to perfectly keep the abuse Lakyn had dealt with and the plot all tied together without making him seem over dramatic or forgetting any of those key details. It was just... perfect! I don't typically go for books like this but it was so worth it. Everything in this book was amazing and I cried a few times. It was heartwarming, relatable, and so damn realistic in all the best ways. Loving Lakyn is a tale filled with both the worst and best parts of life- in my own personal opinion. I adored this book and its characters and I cannot wait to see what the author has in store for all of us next.
From the very first moment I was transfixed! This book was an emotional roller coaster from start to finish and I wouldn't have it any other way! In fact it was so good that the moment I was done I immediately went back to the beginning to read it again. If you love tales of recovery, self-discovery, love, and family then PLEASE, please, please, give this book a read!
