Hmmmm, well shucks! This storyline has a lot of potential, however, it just wasn't well thought out and executed.

First, the writing and telling of the story was far to basic and elementary for my liking. I like details, that's what brings a story and the characters together. There was too much flippity flopping of the main H/h characters that it left me scratching my head in confusion when they finally ended up in bed together. I just didn't get it.

Second, we have this Senator Alex Conrad, this "Hot, Sexy" man, who completely decimated his character by acting like a HUGE WEENIE 99.9% of the time. This Man is in a huge position of power, both career wise and public figure wise, he supposed to be charismatic, magnetic, bold, and all Alpha. Yet, he comes across as a weenie who has his balls trapped in a pink tutu. Major turn off for me. He also says "My God" waaaaaaay to much. His character was so poorly written, it ruined his Powerful Senator Sexy image for me.

Prudence Prudence Prudence, she was annoying as all get out. No back bone.......real doormat kind of character who keeps embarrassing herself over Senator Conrad. Not even 2% into the book and she's already throwing herself at him like a bitch in heat. I was like whaaaaaaaat????? Then the Senator finally asks her out on a date, right after ignoring her for months mind you, she agrees and no sooner does he show up to pick her up for date night, she's already trying to jump him, and he just keeps turning her down. Yeah, Prudence was very pushy and bossy and alpha about the sex, but doormat in every other aspect of her character. Sooooo ANNOYING!!!!!

Like I said, too much flippity flop from one extreme to another, and NO details in between. Basic, not well written.

Despite some early favorable reviews and tempting teasers, I found Prudence and Alex’s romance to be a contrived, awkward and deflated affair that failed to hold my attention.

Alex and Prudence are a hard couple to love. Prudence’s bland and odd personality is passable in comparison to Alex’s glaring shortcomings. The Senator, instead of exuding power, command and raw sexuality, as you might expect and hope for in a fantasized politician, reveals himself to be a weak, conflicted and cowardly man. His likability does moderately increase as the story progresses. However it still isn't enough to forgive or forget his previous missteps. Ultimately, neither Alex nor Prudence are genuinely sensual enough to entice nor appealing enough to fully invest in.

And the sex… The sex is tepid at best. Dogged by poor word choices and phrasing, the racier passages are littered with cringe-inducing and often dated dialog and descriptions that never failed to throw me from the scene.

Pass.

I was expecting more from this story, so I was disappointed. Neither main character was especially likable. Alex was so totally not an alpha male. Prudence kept throwing herself at him, and he keeps walking away from her, never really giving her a reason why. I'm still not sure why. If it was because he kept seeing her in his mind as a sixteen year old, then that's the stupidest reason I've ever heard of, she's at least twenty four now, get over it. He wants her desperately, yet dates and sleeps with another woman, using the excuse "she isn't you, it's only a release". Then this story did the thing I hate the most in stories. Months and months pass without them being together, they're both dating other people. It makes no sense because if we're to believe that they were meant to be together, they couldn't sleep with other people so casually. A real alpha wouldn't have stood by while she dated that drunk loser, who by the way was never mentioned again. They could have been together all along if he hadn't been such an idiot. Also, the two times she went back to Ohio were a waste of storyline. The mother and her ex added nothing to the story other than to remind you of where she came from, which was already shoved in your face enough. Lastly, the ending was way too abrupt. An epilogue would have been nice. My overall feeling after reading this story is annoyance. Too bad.

I was soooo excited about this book since I love a great May/December romance but sadly, this story didn't work for me. It was my first read by Ms. Villano. In my opinion, the dialogue between Alex and Prudence was stilted. I found the name brand dropping in the earlier parts of the book unnecessary. Why does it matter if Prudence is wearing a Chanel blouse and sporting a Gucci purse or if Alex drives a Maserati? I get that you want to give the reader insight into your characters' lifestyle but for me, it just didn't work. Also, the sexy times were hard to get through, again, it was the dialogue for me. I didn't feel a real connection between Alex and Prudence. I think his wishy washy demeanor and her acting like a horny teenager made me lose interest in their relationship. Ms. Villano, everyone reads a story differently. While this was a miss for me, I commend you for taking a leap of faith and putting your work on display for the masses.
