However, there were some editing issues. In several places, things didn't seem to make sense--some words just didn't fit with the rest of the paragraph. I think they were editing comments that weren't resolved. For example, one paragraph read:
She spun around, her hands clasped and an eager smile on her lips. "You and Jemma? Well, praise the Lord. Maybe he does listen to this old gal. I can't tell if that should be in the quotation marks.
It appears that the last sentence was an editor questioning whether there should be an ending quotation mark, which there should be. Instead of adding the closing quote, the editor's comment was left. Most books have a few errors, but this had too many.
If there had been fewer errors, I probably would have given the book 4 stars, but I was pulled out the story too often trying to make sense of the words.
At the beginning I enjoyed the story and the characters. However, by the middle of the book, the repetitive emotional angst began to be tedious. I tired of hearing Philip's concerned about being seventeen years older than Jemma, and Jemma questioning Philip's faith and beliefs in God. By the time they finally got back on track towards a HEA, there was still a lingering issue to be resolved. I was glad when I finally finish the book because it had a nice ending.
I won the ebook in a giveaway.
Gail is revamping her Loving series that was originally released by Love Inspired starting in the early 2000s. I have read one of the originals and really enjoying it.
I enjoyed the faith content. I will note there is wine drinking in it. At times the age conflict bugged me some but I do think that would be a normal concern in a relationship with an age gap. Both, Philip and Jemma, have problems and issues they need worked out with the grace of God.
Knowing this was a revised edition makes me want to get the original to see how much time and technology changes the story.
I highly recommend this book.
