About the Author

Kate Scarlata, RDN, LDN is a New York Times bestselling coauthor of 21 Day Tummy Diet and author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Eating Well with IBS and Real Food for Real People. A digestive health specialized registered dietitian with over tewnty-five years working in the nutrition field, Kate earned her Bachelor of Science from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts, and completed her postgraduate dietetic internship at Harvard Medical School's affiliate, Brigham and Women's Hospital. She is a research collaborator with the FODMAP pioneers at Monash University in Australia.

Dede Wilson has been a recipe developer for thirty years, has worked as a television and radio host, and has written fourteen cookbooks. A contributing editor to Bon Appét from 1999 to 2014, Dede was featured as on-air talent in over 100 national television appearances for herself and Bon Appét on all major networks: TODAY Show, CBS Early Show, Dr. Oz, The View, and more. Great Recipes & Advice, Poorly Made Book
I really wanted to give this book a 5/5. If I were only looking at the recipes & the FODMAP advice, I would. There's a plan for the restrictive portion of trying the FODMAP diet, and then how to reintroduce each individual sugar. Recipes have adjustments for when you do figure out what you can tolerate & there's a very useful key at the top of each recipe. Unfortunately, this book is not made well.Upon opening the book, the pages started falling out (see photos). The text can be difficult to read based on the lighting because of the very, very glossy pages. The images in the book, while appealing, are not of any of the recipes.

This book is very good at explaining the FODMAP diet and how to transition out of it. There are a lot of recipes that people that aren't following the FODMAP diet can enjoy.

This is a great book for IBS sufferers learning to navigate the low FODMAP diet. It is packed with helpful information. Though I have been loosely following the low FODMAP diet for quite some time in an attempt to treat my IBS I had not been entirely successful and was trying to really pin down my specific food sensitivities with a strict elimination/reintroduction plan. However, the amount of information out there can be overwhelming and it can be hard to figure this out on your own, which is why this book is so great. TONS of information on how to prepare low FODMAP recipes during your elimination phase and then a step-by-step for the reintroduction phase. I really love all the nutritional information in there as well as I had specific concerns about my fiber intake, as well as my calcium intake, since I am lactose intolerant. Since reading this and following the recommendations, I feel that my diet is much more varied and healthy, as I had previously been far too restrictive. I also like that both authors understand firsthand the struggles of GI issues and have a passion for creating delicious, gut-friendly recipes. There are not pictures for every recipe in the book, unfortunately, but there are lots of beautiful color photos. Most of the recipes are extremely easy to follow and do not require strange ingredients. I haven' stopped using this book since I purchased it!

Wow, this book exceeded my expectations. I have been struggling with IBS-D for a few years and it really hit a low point in the past few months. After test results all coming back normal, I felt really overwhelmed and disappointed when my doctor recommended a low fodmap diet.
I knew I wanted help with the educational aspect of this diet but also wanted to recipes to make life easier. This book has both!! I can’t tell you how helpful it is to read the first section of the book with all of the educational information. It was extremely insightful and helped me navigate low fodmap options in the store, at home, and while out. The recipes that I have tried are also very tasty and I feel satisfied and full.
I told myself I would give it one week to see how I feel and I would stop if I felt like the diet wasn’t helping. I am finished with one week and I can honestly say I feel better than I have in years. My symptoms are gone (bye bathroom anxiety) and I feel energized and excited. I’m going to keep with it a few a few more weeks, then will slowly start to integrate foods back in as the book suggests.
Highly highly recommend!!

This is a very informative and well written book for anyone new to the low fodmap diet. I gave it only four stars because I enjoy a cookbook that has photos of every recipe so that I know what end result I should get, especially if it's a dish I haven't made before. I also found some recipes to be too well written, to the point that I would accidentally miss a step because the recipes are written in paragraph form instead of numbered. So now I read the whole recipe first and then number the steps and highlight key areas so that i don't miss anything! Other than that, this book has a ton of information on the low fodmap diet and how to best implement it, as well as a large variety of recipes. Even better is that the two authors are always developing new recipes for their blogs. There's also lots of tips, and I've definitely become a more skilled and confident cook since starting this diet! If you're feeling overwhelmed by the low fodmap diet, this book will probably help you!

This books gives practical advice on how to navigate the Low FODMAP diet along with a detailed chart for challenge foods for each FODMAP subtype. The 7 day menu plan is especially helpful and the recipes are really good with directions easy to follow.

I like the informational first portion of this cookbook but the two recipes I've tried so far have been a disappointment. The Pork Chops with root vegetable mash was okay but I'd add a step in it to brown the pork chops before adding back to the pan. Otherwise you end up with just grey, boring pork chops. The mash was good.

The 3 ingredient peanut butter cookies were an unmitigated disaster. The recipes directs you to mix the ingredients together which should be smooth after doing so. My dough was crumbly so I put just a little egg white to make them less likely to fall apart, but at the end of the cooking period, they were just in a puddle of liquid, which was probably a mix of oil and egg. Very gross.

I've decided I just do okay with altering regular recipes to suit my IBS diet since I haven't found GF/IBS cookbook I really like yet. Good luck with your journey.

Si meriterebbe 5 stelle per la serietà dell'approccio. tratta approfonditamente l'argomento, è strutturato molto bene e ci sono tante ricette, peccato che sia un libro spiccatamente americano per cui sono presenti molti cibi che noi italiani non usiamo abitualmente e altri mancano all'appello. Le ricette di conseguenza non sono comode perché spesso non incontrano il mio gusto e soprattutto le mie abitudini da italiana. Purtroppo non ho trovato un corrispettivo in italiano

I have been prescribed to do the fodmaps diet for other reason than having IBS, I struggled with the diet before I came across this cook book. I was able to learn so much more of the dos and donts and understand the diet better. I enjoy the recipes and have started adding or changing them to my tastes. It's a great cook book and informative source for IBS and similar digestive disorders.

Informative on many gut conditions. The recipes seem very interesting although may require more preparation than i was hoping. I would reccomend because it has many many recipes and I feel that nothing is missing, it includes breakfast lunch dinner snack recipes and so many more 😋

I am so happy I ordered this cookbook. I have made several recipes and they all turned out really well! My symptoms have reduced significantly since starting the low FODMAP diet. When I first started the diet I was having a hard time figuring out what to have for meals, this book has helped me so much!
