Ever stopped to read the list of ingredients in the products you use every day? In Low Tox Life, activist and educator Alexx Stuart gently clears a path through the maze of mass-market ingredient cocktails, focusing on four key areas: Body, Home, Food and Mind.

Sharing the latest science and advice from experts in each area, Alexx tackles everything from endocrine-disruptors in beauty products to the challenge of going low plastic in a high-plastic world, and how to clean without a hit of harmful toxins.

You don''t need to be a fulltime homesteader with a cupboard full of organic linens to go low tox. Start small, switching or ditching one nasty at a time, and enjoy the process as a positive one for you and the planet.

Introduction

Change has to feel good. It can be challenging, sure, but to be sustainable, it has to feel good. And so I’ve inadvertently made it my job to help people explore change in their own lives, when it comes to being curious about how and why to lower their daily toxic load and get closer to nature in this busy modern world, and then helping them go about doing that practically – for their body, home, food and mind. To that end, I’d love to welcome you officially to this book – a bit of a bumper starter pack, if you will – on how to live a low tox life.

Chapter 1 Low Tox Life

Why is today the day to go low tox? Don’t our bodies deal with toxins anyway, processing and excreting them through our sweat, eyes, ears, nose, lymphatic system, kidneys, liver, pee and poop? Yes, but to a point. The thinking on why so much is going haywire with our health today is that we simply haven’t evolved to be able to cope with the sheer number of toxins we now need to filter. Our environment isn't coping too well, either.

Chapter 2 Low Tox Body

Let me ask you this, thinking about a couple of the ingredients that are actually in these products: have you ever dreamed of rubbing petroleum derivatives and silicone on your face with a dusting of some of the nonstick particles from your frying pan and a splash of endocrine-disruptive compounds, thinking ‘Yum’? Just what your dull skin needed, right?

Chapter 3 Low Tox Home

It’s our right to feel safest in our own house, and this pillar of the Low Tox Life is about bringing a beautiful sense of what’s good and true into our homes, and letting go of what’s not. It’s all about your priorities, and there’s no perfect way to do low tox other than your way.

Chapter 4 Low Tox Food

How far we’ve strayed … And yet how simple it is to return home to Mother Nature. Enlightening, isn’t it, that things have drifted so far from what our bodies understand? It comes right back to that inconvenient truth about socalled convenience. They told us we didn’t have time. They told us they could do it cheaper for us, in convenient long-life packaging. They told us we were smart, modern people now, so food prep was beneath us. It was a chore we could be liberated from. But at what cost?

Chapter 5 Low Tox Mind

Given our state of mind isn’t something we can ‘see’ or can tick off as ‘done’, it can be overlooked on our low tox journey. But I’ll tell you, I’ve seen a heck of a lot of green smoothie-drinking, natural-cosmetics-loving friends in a constant state of stress. I’ve seen people who eat organic or some other ‘healthy’ way and look after their skin with natural beauty but have anxious, obsessive tendencies.

This may be the first Amazon review I've ever written, but I just had to. I am in love with this book. I reference it at least once a week, sometimes more. It has revolutionized my approach to cleaning, body care, and clothing completely. I have turned into a total DIY-er, making my own lotions and body products, laundry detergent, and other cleaning potions. It is so fun, and I feel happy every time I open my cupboard and instead of seeing a bundle of toxic plastic yuckiness, find a collection of simple glass jars with products I know and trust. My home feels lighter and cleaner and my body feels better too. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Alexx! Keep on!

I just began my journey of toxin elimination and this was so helpful to get me started! It can feel like a huge task but give yourself time. She writes on different areas of the home and it can be helpful to give yourself 3-6 months to focus on one area. This made me feel like it was doable.

This book is jam-packed full of all the important information you need to start (or continue) your journey to living a low tox life. I waited patiently to receive my copy after pre-ordering and I wasn't disappointed. Alexx writes in a lovely, easy to read, non-judgemental way that makes this information so accessible. Buy one for everyone you love...this information is so important for them and the planet!! If I could give this book 10 stars I would!! Love the tone of this book “progress not perfection”. Useful for those who realize you must take healthy living into your own hands—And don’t know where to start. Let’s face it, the Disease Care System ( fraudulently called “Health Care”) won’t help you avoid toxins, chemicals & disease.

If I ever wrote a book, this would've been it! Alex did such a thorough job of laying out the truth on why we need to live a low tox life and the how to! She shares wonderful recipes and I love that she broke it down into sections so it is easy to navigate between low tox living in the home and low tox living for the body & mind.

The book is a stepping stone for trying to ease our way into living a low-tox life. It is full of quick info into why products may be toxic, but doesn't say "never use anything that isn't non-toxic again", which is awesome since it may not be feasible at this point. Great read for anyone just learning about what is in our everyday products.
