Its Monowrap midsole technology reduces overall boot weight, while providing extra cushioning and lateral stability. A rugged Vibram outsole and thick, nonslip rubber lugs make these boots ideal for hiking, light backpacking, and other outdoor activities where you need traction and grip. I have been searching for a comfortable mid height boot that I could use season round riding a harley. Was not impressed with the motorcycle branded versions, frankly thought that you paid a lot for a badge and the boot itself was nothing special. Finally found LOWA and wow what a difference this has made. Build quality is excellent, look is clean and the leather liner is awesome. Have been riding in 50 degree weather so I can comment on their suitability in warmer summer weather yet. But so far I love the fit and build quality. Not the cheapest boot but well worth the extra $$.

UPDATE October 1 2012. So it has been several weeks, months since I purchased these boots. In that time I have worn these every day for every purpose. I changed the soles out for super feet which made these even more comfortable. Absolutely the best shoe I have ever worn. Extremely light weight, great fit, great protection. After months of riding, and moving, yard work, air travel and miles and miles of walking I LOVE these boots. No sign that they are wearing out so I expect I will be still wearing these every day for the next year.
Update May 20 2013. Continue to wear these boots on a daily basis. Absolutely fantastic fit as they are broken in . Love the stability and light weight. Today I ordered another pair as Amazon has them for $50 off. Figured I will need another set on day. Wear like iron and after one year no signs of wear. Still original strings, all seems tight and leather untattered.

This boot is much more comfortable than the GTX version. Don't get me wrong, both are nice. I like the support the polyurethane midsole gives this day-hiker. The main difference between the two is the leather lining. You probably wouldn't think it'd make all that much of a difference, but it does. It's SUPER comfy. Inside the leather lining is this foam- it feels like that memory foam inside of Temperpedic mattresses- it hugs your feet and ankles with the perfect amount of support. The ankle is never pinchey or bitey. You can snug the laces down as tight as you want, and this boot will just keep lovingly hugging your feet no matter what you put it through. the boot is also very handsome. I got the color "Espresso." It's exactly the same color as my chocolate lab. I like that we match!

The only negative thing I'd say about this boot is that it's a bit too narrow. It does come in a wide, but you'd have to seek that out somewhere else. (Or just wait for the leather to stretch a bit.)

Typical Lowa quality which is generally perfect and although everything Lowa is expensive they are worth it. I own these Renegade ll (leather lined) and Lowa Trekkers also leather lined. The Renegade need no break in period but the Trekker's are best broken in before a major hike. The Renegades are lighter by far.

My only complaint and what keeps these Renegade ll from being five stars is that they squeak. I have tried a little leather conditioner on the inner top leather since that is where the squeak seems to come from. Didn't help. Keeping the boots and in a week leaving for a six week hiking excursion in Canada. We will be living in a fifth wheel and doing some major day hikes in Waterton Lakes, Banff, Lake Louise area etc.

While my Trekkers (which don't squeak) are made in Germany these Renegades are made in Slovakia. Wish I could think of a way to stop the squeak because it's loud enough to be irritating. My wife has the regular Renegades which are Gor-Tex and they do not squeak. I am a fan of the leather for comfort and enjoy treating the leather to be waterproof just like Lowa suggests.

UPDATE: fixed the squeak to absolutely gone! Tried beeswax on the upper tongue which is little squares to accept the beeswax anyway. Immediate success. Anyway I am now one very camper. Leaving my review at four stars because you shouldn't have to fix a squeak anyway. Also fitted them with SOLE Red inserts from REI and put a Spenco heel pad under the insert. Treated them with Nikwax. Now I have quiet, waterproof boots with some cushion.

We are a family who field tests boots whenever the weather will let us. We cover miles and we each have a pair of the Renegades. These are the best boots we have ever had. They are comfortable out of the box, never any blisters, and they last. The leather lining is luxurious and very cushy. We highly recommend these boots.

As the pictures indicate, these boots go above the ankle. The uppers are leather; the soles are vibram with a pattern that does well on trail or in town. The boots are lined with a creamy soft leather. They seem similar to the high quality New Balance walking-hiking shoes I have had in the past. Following the advice of other reviewers, I went up a half size when I ordered. I am glad I did, they fit well. The one problem I have had is a little noise, a squeak from the left boot. It sounds like it is the leather rubbing against itself somewhere. It doesn't bother me but it might bother others-- this is why I gave four rather than five stars. At this point, I would buy these boots again when the time comes to replace them.

I got both the leather lined and regular gore tex versions of this boot. I love them both. I have Vasque Breeze GTX boots, and I prefer Lowas for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is Vasque switching production to China some time ago. The leather lined has become my standard daily wear boot due to its comfort and light weight. Feels like you're wearing house slippers, but don't be fooled by the comfort. These boots are built to last and to take punishment. Truly phenomenal footwear. Despite what others say, I can't tell any difference in comfort between the two versions; however, the leather lined does seem to be slightly better to alleviate issues from sweaty feet due to the absorption qualities of the leather lining. The gore tex version is my choice in wet conditions for obvious reasons (Gore tex). I consider this a hiking boot - NOT a backpacking boot. That is not a negative. It is simply a fact that these boots are not designed for extreme backpacking. Such boots would be heavier and have a stronger, thicker base. These seem to not have the durability for such activity, but that is also not a con. They are perfect boots for hiking or any sort of walking anywhere. Lowa boots are not made in Chinese sweat shops. It is evident that pride in workmanship is present in the Lowa product line. I highly recommend these boots.
