Starting with the exterior, the fabric has an unusual "plush" finish that is pleasant to the eye and to the hand. Two zipper pulls (one zipper) are nice.
Inside, there is a sturdy flap that secures your disk drive in place. It forms a pocket for your drive. A pull-tab adds convenience. The flap has a flat mesh pocket to hold a cable. That would be a very small cable. On the other side of the interior, there are four flat, mesh pockets. These are sized to hold SD memory cards. Lowe made these pockets large enough to swallow an SD card completely, so that they will never scratch your disk drive. Nice!
The case is padded inside and there is an unseen, stiff layer in the middle somewhere. Excellent protection all around. Construction seems strong and well designed. Everywhere I look, I see attention to design and detail.
The size of a product like this is always going to be an issue. You want a snug fit, so that your disk drive does not flop around inside. But if the case is too small, your disk drive won't fit!
I have three suitable disk drives at hand. The width of each disk drive is compatible with this case. This measurement ranges from 3 inches to 3.25 inches.
My newest disk drive is the smallest, with a length of a bit over 4.5 inches. This disk drive fits the Lowe case perfectly.
I have another disk drive that is 5 inches long and I don't like the way it fits the Lowe case. I can force it in, but it does not look right.
Finally, I have a disk drive that is almost 5.25 inches long and I would not use it with this case under any circumstances.
I don't have much in the way of criticism.Read more ›
So if you have a larger hard drive like the WD Studio or some of the Iomega drives, don't bother purchasing this case. For most purchasers, this is a great choice in portable hard drive protection.

The case itself is typical Lowepro, very good quality with not a stitch out of place. The black exterior has an unusal feel to it bur I do like it. It's grippy and won't easily slide off a slick or tilted surface. Unzip and open it and you find a very soft, grey interior with black pockets trimmed in high visibility orange. The designers managed to pull off the black and orange without having a halloween nightmare look, it's actually quite classy. There are 4 pockets for memory cards and my SD cards fit perfectly. On the other side are pockets for your HD and for a cable. I put a 3' cable in it but don't think I could have put in a longer one. As one reviewer noted, the firm HD pocket doesn't have any flex or "hinge" at the bottom which made me initially think my HD wouldn't fit. What I did was to bend and fold it a little at about the depth of my HD and was able to slide it right in. After some use it's loosened up a bit and now I have no problems at all putting my HD in the pocket.
All in all, it's a great solution for transporting my HD when I don't take my laptop. I think it's less of a hassle to take only my HD without dragging along my laptop when I want to share files or pictures with family and friends. There is enough padding that I don't need to worry about the occasional drop (oops!!!) and if I put in my HD correctly, I don't even need to remove it to use it.Read more ›

Measurements: 4.5 inches in length and 3 inches width.
They really weren't kidding about it being ultra compact. It is so ultra compact that none of my hard drives fit in. I tried the hard drives I own, including Seagate FreeAgent Go Portable Hard Drive and none fit. Just 1 more inch would have been perfect. I believe it would fit the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Ultra-Portable Hard Drive but, I am not positive. I strongly recommend you measure it. Another problem arises in the way it is built. The bottom part of the hard drive pocket is attached to the case, thereby creating a slanted pocket that stretches at the top due to the elastics at each side. But, the bottom doesn't stretch so you are losing 0.5 inches of space right there. In other words, you cannot push the hard drive all the way to the bottom. It doesn't fit. They should have added an elastic to the bottom so that the entire pocket was able to stretch out and have a better fit for hard drives. The main thing here is: Measure your hard drive before you buy this. Ideally, a hard drive no more than 4 inches long.
Well, since I couldn't fit my hard drives inside, I checked to see what I could actually use this case for. Fujifilm FinePix Digital Camera?Read more ›
