This breakthrough design innovation helped packs fit close to the back and minimize load shifting – so gear-wearing adventurers can climb, bike, ski and scramble with more ease. They’re using the same innovative mindset today.

The Whistler is built like a tank...I feel there is quality throughout, but that comes with a price...weight. The pack weighs a touch over 7 pounds. There are a number of adjustment straps, however, so the load can be readily shifted to maximize balance and comfort.
For my shorter day trips trips (6-8 miles) I've carried 2 liters of water, a Nikon D4, the three key Nikkor lenses (14-24, 24-70, 70-200), a Gitzo travel tripod with a RRS ball head, and a pair of hiking poles. Throw in incidentals, and I've been good for the duration. My only complaint is that the pack doesn't have a built-in hydration unit. But thats not a deal breaker. Lowepro has included a hangar strap in the front pocket for a water bag.
I could go on, but suffice it to say that I am very pleased with the pack and would buy it a gain and definitely recommend it to others for serious consideration.
The packs only truly weak link is its ability to carry a tripod, or should I say the lack thereof. If you're hauling this much gear, chances are you will also have a large tripod. Sorry, there's no deep drop out pocket to slip the tripod legs into and keep the tripod centered in the middle and secured in place using the compression straps. The pack manufacture has favored the sides of the pack for tripod positions. Doable but hard objects behind your elbow's on a long hike don't tend to play well together.
Overall this is a well made large capacity camera pack that one would be hard pressed to find a better one out there. As soon as some of these manufacturers start building these packs to incorporate enough extra load capacity to include our personal gear as well...you'll find my Lowepro 450 on ebay!
- Lots of space
- Very well built
- Modular inside
- The belt ( You can flip the bag on your waist without setting it down )
- Sturdy, I have a street bag from ThinkTank and this is way more solid.
- No water pouch
- Back storage area could be slightly bigger, but to be honest this might be a packing problem on my part I have another
