This book was an easy quick read for a small-business owner like me. Taxes give me anxiety. I hate doing them, but someone recommended this book and I was tired of our accountant being Ultra Conservative and not getting us all our write-offs we deserved running our business. Last year we paid taxes and this year we got that same amount BACK to us, just because of this book. It's in laymen's terms, gave great examples for each scenario he lines out and gives a great breakdown of the various areas anyone can benefit from. Biggest lesson for us was: CLAIM & USE 2 cars for miles. You get a lot extra in write-offs with mileage for business miles because one is based on 100% of the per cent rate on one car and then the business amount for the other car.

Must read! I skimmed the areas in under 1 hour for what we needed to know. It made me feel a lot more confident walking into our accountants office and asking him to write certain items he wouldn't have suggested in the past, off.

This book is 99.9% about starting your own business to lower taxes. So if your looking for tax tricks for the average person who does not own a business - this is not the book for you. The title should read "Lower your taxes by starting your own business."

If you're a small business or thinking about starting one, this book covers most of the tax issues with which you should concern yourself. However, it's not a tax resource for the individual tax payer if you have no intention of starting a small business. It would have been more apt to title this book "Lower Your Taxes with a Small Business." But in this subject, Mr. Botkin is extremely knowledgeable. I especially liked how he covered the ways in which the IRS begins and processes tax audits. I am going to seek out more of this author's books.

Definitely did not meet my expectations. This should clearly be described as a book that gives you all the write offs you can claim if you start a business. If you are not starting a business there is zero useful info.

WOW! That's about all I can say on this book - I'm only in the first few chapters and already I've learned more than I've ever known about taxes. And this version includes the health care act and implications. Well written, easily understood ... this is a "must have" book for everyone in America.

Brand new to REI which is why I bought this book. SO GLAD I did! I have not even really gotten started yet and already I have learned how to NOT make some very expensive mistakes, in areas like deductions, vs depreciation , putting your unit into service before you make a bunch of repairs that can wait to get a current deduction instead of depreciation,( NOT improvements mind you but repairs, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!) TAX WISE! GET IT , READ IT, DO IT! You will be SOO INCREDIBLY GLAD you did!
