1.0 out of 5 stars great hardware design, poorly coded app prevents use
By 🛡️ veracity 🛡️ on December 16, 2018
Anyone can cast with this. I bought an RC boat to troll with it. ([[ASIN:B01N3OKMBX here]]) I love me some overkill.

I want to keep this sonar float. I have several less well designed sonar devices (Lucky Laker, hawkeye fishtrax, nacatin fishfinder). I use android with root for security and privacy (adblocking) ergo no G-apps/services. This app is stuck on the splash screen. For comparison the apps for Vexilar, Deeper, Lucky Laker run without issue.

Take a looksee at the app's activities to discover there are Offline Maps. This makes sense as your device will be using a wifi connection to an AP without internets. 👎 Requiring G-apps/services is absurd! Additionally there are some shady app activities like some kind of premium services, 'license' checking, amazon ratings, and contest tracking.

👍 5 sonar emitters employing 3 frequencies is sidestepping the Intellectual Property of CHIRP sonar nicely. THIS is the sonar float to have... unless Gapps have been uninstalled from your android devices.

Unlike Deeper Pro+ neither of the Lowrance buoys have built-in GNSS (GPS) despite claims by another reviewer who apparently employs an inferior handset or tablet. The similar model from Deeper is the Pro not the Pro+. Deeper Pro ( [[ASIN:B01CQLVNTC here]] ) is a multi-frequency device, but it has only one emitter, no GNSS; it is more of a fishing app with the addition of sonar. Should the battery on one of these devices fail know Lowrance is an American based firm with a low turn around time very-unlike Deeper from the EU. Vexilar has software self described as a "sonar app" [sonar phone]. ( [[ASIN:B00CJJBM66 here]] ).

I wish I could use it. Should an app become available designed with competence I will amend my review. I bought the PRO model also (99 monies) to gift, but the recipient has similar android configuration so we are likely 0 for 2.

None of the sonar buoy manufacturers have any provisions for the Free Open Source Software community to build a better app. This is unfortunate. If a few more people ask Lucky Laker manufacturer there might be some traction gained as they have expressed not much of a demand has been made. That's easily solved ;)

For 1/3 the cost and an order of magnitude less disappointing consider the 125 kHz Nacatin XJ01 (ASIN B075G6WZZX) ([[ASIN:B075G6WZZX here]]). It does not pair to a phone instead using EU ISM band with a proprietary 4bit color lcd receiver showing raw data bottom, fish icons (no raw), with an audible detection alarm.

2.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps a broken GPS antenna?
By UH ECE Department on August 7, 2018
We purchased this unit July 18, 2018. We compared this Lowrance Fishhunter 3D with a similar model from Deeper.
The Lowrance has a nice phone interface, but the GPS traces made a jagged map that wasn't even on the lake. We tried the Deeper unit, and it traced our path (in the lake) faithfully. Thinking perhaps the GPS antenna needed time to update, we powered the system up in a pond with a clear view of the sky for 60 minutes, then moved the unit around in a 4 m circular pattern. Again, the GPS trace was a jagged line that was not even in the water. Perhaps the GPS sensor in this unit is faulty? We run a robotics lab at the University of Houston and wanted to find a compact underwater mapping device.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible
By D on February 14, 2019
The unit has connected maybe 2 of 40 times out fishing. Very frustrated. The window to return has closed and I'd like some feedback to why the unit continues to fail. Picture included is the most common screen I receive. For $200, I'd rather have thrown a bobbervand transducer out. I do love my other lowrance products. This one, I wish I did not purchase.
