The Analekta DVD has a stereo audio track

I had been wanting this for a long time. Multiple DVDs of this performance are available, but this is the one to buy (the label is Analekta). Video and audio quality are excellent, and there is a plus: the liner notes explain that although this was originally broadcast in mono on PBS, a separate audio recording was made in stereo during the concert, and this recording has been used for the audio track on this release. A nice surprise! You won't go wrong with this one.

We played this DVD in the background while family visited at Christmas and everyone enjoyed it. Others have remarked this version of the DVD has the best video quality. It appeared slightly blurred during the first minute or two but improved after that. We do not sit and watch it but rather play the music to get everyone in the Christmas mood. I highly recommend this concert DVD.

This DVD shows why Luciano Pavarotti is the greatest tenor of the 20th century. After I picked my jaw off the floor, I watched it for a second time. This is Pavarotti at his best. The most beautiful renditions of "Ave Maria" and "Pieta, Signore" I have ever heard. The price of the DVD is worth it for these 2 songs alone. If I could give it 10 stars, I would. BUY IT - and soar with the Angels!

I have had the Video of this for the last 20 years and last year purchased
the Pickwick DVD and agree entirely with LEATHERHEAD's review of it -
absolutely awful - which ended up in the garbage bin. However this DVD by the Canadian Company ANALEKTA IS SUPERB. They have done a fantastic job digitally remastering with Dolby 5.1 The crisp colour and the sound are first class and Pavarotti is in glorioius voice along with the choir and orchestra. I had transferred my old video onto DVD but after viewing this I wont need it any more. I would recommend this to anyone wishing to buy A Christmas DVD - well done ANALEKTA.
