Lucifer, a vampire lieutenant of Vampire Lord Aden, is on loan to Vampire Lord Sophia. Sophia's mate, Colin, has been kidnapped and is being tortured daily. Pictures each day are sent to Sophia to terrorize her and also distract her from the real plot, which is taking over her territory by some European vampires. Lucifer is a renowned hunter with the ability to put random pieces together of a picture, as well as telepathy. Pretty hard to pull anything over on a vampire that can read minds.
Eleanor is the right hand and bodyguard of Sophia. Sophia assigns Eleanor to go along with Lucifer to keep him honest in her territory. What Sophia doesn't realize is Lucifer and Eleanor are old lovers from some 25 years ago.
I have to say that I loved the character of Lucifer. Lucifer was sharp, confident, sexy and intelligent. The plot was also really great. I like the detective aspects of the story, as Lucifer slowly unravels the mystery of where Colin is being held and tortured. What I didn't like was Eleanor. Eleanor was pretty much a high maintenance idiot. Years ago when Eleanor was turned, she got some weird thought into her head about Lucifer not liking her now that she was a vampire, so she leaves him - without a word. Lucifer looked high and low for her and finally convinced himself that Eleanor was dead and he grieved the last two decades for her. Yes, that's right. This selfish woman never even tells him she is alive, nor does she give him the chance to decide for himself. When she finally meets up with Lucifer, she continues to act like an idiot. She avoids him when she can, changes the subject, disapproves of his methods of solving the crime, and in general, is a huge pain in the posterior. But aside from the negative aspects of Eleanor's character, Eleanor was portrayed pretty much as a bit character. Lucifer called all the shots, made all the decisions, did all the fighting, and slowly Eleanor's character sunk further and further into the background. My last complaint was the endless and repetitive sex scenes. After the first couple, they failed to make the connection deeper, move the story along, or show a new twist or kink, so they were largely unnecessary and seemed like a way to hit word count.
I struggled on whether to give this story 3 or 4 stars, but now that the story has settled some, I have to go with 3.
But this book centers around the kidnapping of Colin Murphy (not one of my favorite characters, but he's okay). And Colin is mated to the Vampire Lord of Canada, Sophia; who is a whiny, arrogant, self-centered, bully who has no business being a vampire lord. All she can talk about is how pretty she is and how none of the males she's EVER met take her serious because she is so pretty. Give me a break. This woman's personality is duller than dishwater. A complete turn-off. She was an admitted play-girl for 99% of her life and yet she expects everyone to respect her new position as a Lord overnight. Yeah, right. I love reading about strong, independent women, but that ain't Sophia.
Lucifer manages to save Colin, kill several of Sophia's enemies (almost at the cost of his own life), and adds a much needed assist to the final battle. And only receives a begrudging thank you from Colin and less than that from Sophia. What a bitch. I could go on and on about her but I think you get the picture. Sophia sucks
A gorgeous fiercest fighter and unparalleled lover, complete with his Cajun-French accent, Lucifer made Eleanor one of the luckiest heroines in the series! I loved her power and her loyalty to her Vampire Lord. But most of all, loved her faithful toward Lucifer, her one true love and mate.
If you haven't discovered this series yet, please try Lucifer now. Trust me! You will back track and grab Book 1 : "Raphael" without hesitation!

Eleanor Morel lost everything—including the love of her life—when she became a vampire, twenty years later she's the trusted bodyguard of o the Canadian lord, Sophia, and the only person Sophia can count on to lead the search for her missing mate. What Eleanor doesn't expect is to come face to face with Lucifer, who is shocked to see the love of his life alive - he's spent the last 20 years aching for the woman he thought was dead.
Overall, an enjoyable read, although there were small moments when I wanted a but more from Eleanor and Lucifer.
It's been an age since i've read the books that came before this, and not remember anything I didn't feel lost with this - it can be comfortably read as a standalone.
99p on amazon 20th December 2019.
The only thing that I can find negative about the books is that just lately the last three or so books have too much sex in them, I know many would say you can't have to much but after a few scenes that seem to happen every chapter or so you find yourself thinking "get on with the plot woman lol ".
This said nothing would stop me buying the next book in the series. You just have to love ❤️ those sexy vampire lords.
Loved Lucifer....cheeky and so sure of himself and he hot even better when he discovered he was working one of Sophia's most trusted guards and friend Eleanor.
Oh my! These two had history and once the surprise of meeting one another again wore off they were at it like rabbits lol.
The sex was off the charts and so dam hot even I was surprised anyway I'm veering off here...they had work to do....find Colin and the vampires who kidnapped him.
Lucifer was like a detective with a gift for mind probing and by the look of it he had the makings of becoming a lord himself.
Plenty of loving and fighting and not disappointed with the story on how the vampire world works.
