For Wren Jamison, that little black ball is more than just a toy, it's her lifeline. Her barrier that insulates her against the big bad world and she trusts it more than she trusts her own judgement. It seems weird, and even within the context of the story Lisa builds for us, it becomes no less weird, but suddenly it's at least understandable.
Wren's trauma and the circumstances surrounding it provide the perfect reasoning for her falling into a cage of her own making, and a lifetime of reinforcing the walls of that cage have only served to make it nearly indestructible.
From there we have a scintillating love story that, while it certainly has its fair share of funny moments, it isn't really a comedy. Instead, those moments are combined with others that are sweet, yet others that are sad, joyful and poignant, and more than a few that are just so infuriating that you'll want to rip that ball out of Wren's hands and smash it against the nearest brick wall. All the while you'll be marveling at Logan's patience, understanding, tenderness and devotion, with perhaps just enough sneakiness to give that beat up old ball a run for its money.
For his part, the ex-founding member of an extremely popular rock band, provides the perfect foil for Wren's particular brand of quirky. Solid, laid back and looking for something serious, he takes the time to look beyond the obvious to see the girl hiding amid the shadows of her own making, and determines that, if it's at all possible, he'll be the one to guide her back into the light, the only way they can truly be together.
Usually I struggle a little to get into stories written third person, but in this case, I really didn't have any difficulty at all. The writing style was effortless, and the story, set against a deftly woven web of subplots involving friends and coworkers on both sides, was truly a joy to read.
Easily among my top five favorite reads so far this year, the story of Wren, or 'Lucky', as Logan calls her, will surely stay firmly lodged in my heart long after the final cover is closed.
Logan Enders is the most swoon-worthy, hot, kind, understanding and patient book boyfriend that Wren could ever hope to find! This story will make you laugh, cry, shake your head and everything in between.
With Logan’s help and understanding (and a ton of patience), Wren starts to discover more about herself and that she really doesn’t need the FEB to help her with each and every decision that she needs to make. I all most died laughing when they first went out for coffee and it took her literally 10 minutes to order a cup of coffee! Logan is a saint for going through that ordeal.
I found this book enjoyable and fell in love with both of the characters! Should you one-click this book? Me and the FEB say – Most Defiantly!
Wren is definitely in a league of her own. Her quirkiness, inability to make a decision and the battle that waged inside her made me want to hug her and be her friend.
When you're that person who has a unique way of going about things, you're often misunderstood. Some may not want to spend time trying to understand why someone is the way they are, but that isn't Logan. He's swoony and just the type of man Wren needs.
I won't go into much detail because you need to read this love story. Enjoy the laughs, swoons and feels with Lucky Ball. Who knows, you may see a bit of yourself or someone you know in Wren - I know I did. Well done, Lisa N. Paul!
I've been a fan of Lisa's since Thursday Nights. Her writing is exceptional! This is a must read for 2016!
