Jenn tells a good story, and leaves you wanting more. I can't wait for the next chapter in Lucky's life.
It eventually becomes tiresome as one after the other assassinations are described in minute detail. The actual plot develops slowly, with just a few exchanges between the main characters between jobs. Her uncle retires leaving his daughter in charge, to follow leads on the old mystery full time. He finds an old acquaintance who left the network long ago, and has records on who else left about the same time. Lucky starts to interview these people, forcefully, and they begin to die either just after or in some cases just before she gets to them.
I found it depressing to sink down with Lucky, the main character. There is also a bit of frustration in the love story. She meets another assassin, a backup-safety on one of her jobs, and cannot decide whether to trust him with a relationship or not, and this really doesn't ever move beyond the worry phase. Pages and pages of it, same problem over and over.
There is absolutely no conclusion. Despite being a long novel, it ends practically in mid-sentence. [spoilers coming] Distracted by getting close to learning something about her mother's death, and by her love-trust issues, Lucky gets careless and starts making mistakes. After one of the interviews she makes a big one and doesn't notice she is being followed, and the bad guy shoots her uncle. You can read the book to find out if he dies, I won't give everything away, but you can tell from the description of the next book Lucky flees from her family and lover, thinking she is a danger to them, and in the next book they will look for her and she will pretty much blow her chances with the lover. With that settled already from reading the preview, I'm not very motivated to read the next one. If a book doesn't conclude decisively and doesn't motivate me to read the next one, my policy is 2 stars at best. Though the page by page writing is better than other books I've given 2 star ratings.
It was my first book by Jenn and I have to say that I'm shocked that it has only few reviews as this book is amazingly well written, with a story that makes you gasp with every page and with very well developed characters.
Felicia, who was adopted by Luciano and Molly, thought that life can get only better. She has an exciting, but dangerous job and she is good at it. But her life can't be simple and a happy one. She has a job that normally is consider as a man job.
The book pulled me in straight away. From the first chapter I engrossed in the characters and plot. Especially when Looking at the title I thought that it will be a nice romance book haha But Jenn took it to a totally different level. The book is amazing and even though there is love, it's not a main focus of the book which was refreshing.
Ending caused me to open my mouth in shock and straight away take second part of the book.
Amazing 5 stars!
