I can not for the life of me understand why she would put up with abuse from these people. Why wouldn't she fight back? She says so many times that she is going to fight back, and literally right after she says that, she ends up with a fist in her face.
.....It also left me with a lot more questions than answers. For example, why the social worker didn't see what was going on (unless she must have been one of the demons) or ...and I know this question is going to be really stupid, but... how is she getting money to buy things when she doesn't have a after school job and the family hates her.
And then there is her power of throwing a guy off her to the point he flies through the air.... wheeeeeere did that come from? O.o
I wanted to enjoy the book so much, and it kept me sucked in where I didn't want to put it down, but for the sake of my health and not flying off the handle and breaking my kindle, I had to put it down quite a lot. And even when I finished it, i had to sleep a while before I could even put my thoughts together.......yet they are still scattered. lol
I like the MC, I do. I want to see her grow. I want to see her fight back. I want so much for her, I really really really hope she doesn't keep letting bad things happen to her, I hope she kicks her demon guy to the curb and drowns him in Holy Water.
I doubt that will happen though. Poor girl is on a one way trip to hell to satisfy a scummy demon. :(

The atmosphere of Luminosity is dark and otherworldly, frightening. It strongly reminds me of the old Celtic sagas where good and evil are battling to conquer the world of humans.
I loved reading the book. I find it different from many other stories of this genre and was pleasantly surprised. The concept of a dark world inhabited by demons and, at the same time, human emotions, longings and feelings, a struggle since the beginning of the worlds, is fascinating.
I am definitely going to read the prequel and recommend Stacy McWilliam's books to readers who are not afraid to delve into the dark worlds of our existence.
Unfortunately, what could have been an interesting tale ended up being about a teenager risking everything for the love of a boy. I mean, Jasmine suffered severe mental, emotional, and physical abuse at the hands of her community, but she stays with them anyway because Nathan "might" love her.
And Nathan is the worst of all. He keeps stringing Jasmine along, professing his love one moment and treating her cruelly the next. I mean, what kind of lover would pull a wounded girl by the hair in anger but apologize for it the next? Oh yeah, an abusive one.
This story also tries to imply that Jasmine has all this power, but we never get to see any of it. All we see is an abused, confused girl who refuses to leave a situation she saw coming miles away. Not terribly inspiring.
I don't mean to be harsh, but Jasmine's refusal to leave the abuse just irked me. No man is worth that much pain and confusion. I don't care if he is your soulmate...if he and his family are that abusive towards you, you need to get out.
Fortunately, this is the first book in a series. Maybe Jasmine matures over the next few books and realizes that she strong enough to leave Nathan and his abuse behind.
