This a fantastic, kid-friendly and kid-pleasing idea that I seriously wanted to love, but just couldn't. We had two sets, these and the
Lunch Punch Animal Shape Sandwich Cutters (Set of 4)
and found neither REALLY worked as designed, rarely cleaning cutting any sandwich we tried it on and, if you use anything other than Wonder Bread (i.e. anything natural, organic or whole wheat), the cutters will be incorrectly sized to your sandwich bread, thus missing a good bit of the design.
In this set, the airplane was a dismal, useless failure and we discarded it pretty quickly, since it made nothing but a mess. The other three--car, train and truck--all *kind* of worked, but were also problematic. The main issue is that cutter isn't sharp or crisp enough to actually cleanly slice a sandwich, so you're mostly denting, then ripping and tearing the bread, rather than slicing through it. Also, the shapes, which look so cute on the cutter, come out ragged and smashed, and thus end up mostly unrecognizable. And the smaller bits--wheels, windshields, etc.--just end up looking like lumps of nothing. Unappetizing and useless, smashed bits of bread.
They work best on simple things like PB&J and are pretty much wasted on anything else (tuna salad or lunch meat), because even a tiny bit of filling trips these cutters up even more. I also tried just cutting the bread and then assembling the sandwich from the cut pieces, and the results were pretty similar, if slightly better. Still, even then, the small bits couldn't be successfully extracted. (And, even if they could, making a 1/2" sandwich so you'd have wheels after they were already cut, would be pretty difficult.)
The idea of turning my son's school lunch into a puzzle shape, to help encourage him to eat, even when I'm not around, is a dynamite one--in theory. In reality, a sharp cookie cutter and a single shape is far more practical and likely to create a recognizable shape/character. Which is why these have been sitting in a drawer gathering dust for the better part of a year, and are now headed to Goodwill.

plastic melts...

Will be looking for a metal set of punches as this one melts. True I might want to wait until after I take a grilled cheese sandwich out of the skillet to punch it, but if the plastic melts in this application, there's no telling what chemical residue is left on child's food after cutting a hot sandwich. Landfill here we come...

I ordered the transportation Lunch Punch set for my 20 month old son, who is obsessed with cars. It arrived quickly, but when we opened it, we realized that it was missing the plane punch- it had 2 car punches instead. I contacted Amazon, but they only offered me either a small credit (about 1/3 of the cost of the set, which they said that I could use to purchase an individual plane punch) or the option to return the entire set. There was no option to exchange the set or get the replacement punch. Disappointed, I decided to contact Lunch Punch directly and asked if it would be possible for me to get the single plane punch. They responded right away and were extremely apologetic for the mistake. They offered to send me a new complete set, free of charge! The new set came right away and with an unexpected bonus. I cannot say enough about how wonderful they were to purchase from. I have never worked with a company that was more interested in pleasing their customers. AND- the product is excellent! My son LOVES the punches. I have had no issues with the bread getting stuck in the punch and there is very little of the bread wasted. My son refuses to eat the crust anyway. The punch not only saves me the effort of cutting all of the crusts off, but it does it at the same time that it turns the sandwich or toast into a fun shape. After such a great experience with both the product and the company, I plan to buy Lunch Punch sets for future birthday gifts!

I really wanted to love these sandwich cutters and they do create cute shapes that my kids love, however the one big disadvantage is that they waste LOTS of the sandwich. The cut out shapes leave at least 1/4 of the sandwich if not more. I have a 2 year old and 4 year old who can both eat a whole sandwich so by the time you've trimmed off more than 1/4 of it, they are left hungry for more! Unfortunately, they never agree to another whole sandwich so I end up feeding them other things. I have a dino sandwich cutter that wastes much less of the sandwich. I think I'll be buying the heart and dolphin from that line so I won't waste as much!

I was so excited to receive my Lunch Punch set after having seen it previewed on a favorite blog. When we first received the package from Amazon, my son was more interested in playing with the cutters then letting me use them for sandwiches. I've used them for PB&J sandwiches, but have found that the bread we buy is too small to fit the entire image of the punch. In the end I've had to choose between keeping the wheel part of the design or the top of the vehicle, which is frustrating. They definitely work, the punch-out design is distinct, but I need to investigate a larger bread loaf size.

I ordered the Lunch Punch Transport Shape Sandwich Cutters after having lunch with my two sons at school. I realized they were not eating as much as would like, and that most of their food was ending up in the garbage. I'm hoping these will keep them excited about their meals. Unfortunately, our set was missing the train. This made me leery of the set, as being possibly used or a return. But, the boys loved them so we just gave them an extra good wash!

Thank you Lunch Punch people! My preschooler used to eat all kinds of foods and he loved PBJ sandwiches. Then he hit the dreaded picky eater phase and wouldn't even touch any kind of sandwich. The day these arrived I laid them out and asked him if he wanted a car sandwich, a train sandwich or an airplane sandwich (I left the truck out at random just help narrow his choices a little). He picked the car sandwich. I let him help me make the sandwich and let him take a turn to push the punch down before I pushed harder.
A firm push, a few wiggles and I just peeled the crust away from the edge of the punch while pressing down on it. Voila!
He's now sitting in his seat extremely excited to eat his car sandwich that he helped make!
