Great Rice, Variable Price . . .

This is my absolute favorite rice that I have been eating for years. Last year I found this at amazon for a great price with the convenience of delivery to my door. But now, what happened to the price of this on amazon? I last bought this here in late December 2013 for about $24.00 for 12 lbs. (6 bags, which works out to about $2 per lb.) Now the price has gone bananas. I can buy this elsewhere on the internet for a price that works out to about $2.30 per pound, with free shipping on orders over a mere $20 (iherb) or in the local, expensive health food store for about $2.50 per pound.

I won't be buying this from or through amazon at anywhere close to this price (which works out to about $3.50 per pound)..

Amazon, if you want to keep your customers buying from you, get real about pricing.

Update May 16, 2014 -- I saw the price had gone down to under $20 for 12 lbs. of rice (less than $2 per pound). I'm buying again!

I ordered this to keep my pantry stocked. The order came an I put in the pantry unopened. I just opened the case to put on the shelf because my supply was gone. It was supposed to have 6 and I only had 5. Lesson learned open everything that comes when you put it away. The rice is already expensive and my price just for higher. I could have bought at the local grocery store and support their business.

Brown rice is healthie than whiter. All rice starts out as brown rice. It is milled to remove the husk, bran, and germ -- all essential to a healther diet. Brown rice is an unprocedded whole grain. It's much more flavorful and better for you youu than heavily processed white rice -- never mind "quiick" rice and the rice in prepared meals. Lundergs has been growing rice and creating new rice products in the Central Valley in California for generations. They know their rice!

Short grain Brown rice is the best tasting rice available, period. It has a mild crunch and chew(its not mushy like white rice, but not super crunchy like standard store bought long grain brown rice).

I was happy to find this organic, small grower variety at such a great price with s&s!!

The bag is also unique, it has a plastic "Velcro" seal to keep out moisture and critters, we dont use it however as we cook 2lbs at a time(its a bit more than we need for our family of 7,but my kids eat the little bit of leftovers as snacks the next day...warm, cold, butter, salt, sauce, none of it matters, they just love this rice-and its healthy, so I dont mind a bit). It does take 45min to cook, so if you have folks in your household that want this rice for a quick lunch or snack, make more to keep in the fridge(we always have some of this rice in the fridge).

This is also great rice if anyone in your household(including the dog)has an upset stomach. It actually works better than white or standard brown rice to clear up stomach upset.

So far, I have 3 emptied and cleaned bags in my pantry, I will be using them to store extra flour , beans, and other pantry staples that dont come in such nice bags(they truly are nice, heavy weight with a great closure).

We do still keep white rice in our house for certain applications(rice pudding and chicken rice soup(with white and wild rice) come to mind), but if I had to go down to one main rice, this would be it.

Your short grain brown has been my first choice in brown rice since I found your product over 20 years ago. I love the texture and nuttiness.

It cooks consistently, both on the stove top and in my rice cooker. It makes a great base for nut and rice combinations.

I now buy it in multi package shipments and store it in the freezer. My kitchen is always a bit richer when your rice is on hand. Thank you for a great product.

Rice is one of those things you don't want to buy off the discount rack. The cheap stuff never cooks consistently, and will often be old and impossible to cook to a tasty consistency (not to mention the stray husks). This rice, on the other hand, comes out exactly the same every time - absolutely perfect.

It's so flavorful - nutty, sweet, almost toasty. And the texture... it's like no other. Keeps it's shape perfectly, comes out tender and chewy, slightly sticky but also maintains the integrity of each grain. I could eat this rice plain all day. It almost seems like a shame to mix it with anything.

I don't use any butter or oil when cooking (the package suggests you do), but I do like to add a pinch of salt to the water. I also like to bring the water to a boil before adding the rice (the package say to add rice and then bring to a boil). I think this is the best way to avoid sticking. The rest I do exactly as recommended: Reduce to simmer for 45 minutes, then remove from heat and let sit for 10 minutes before fluffing.

Also note that this rice has a PERFECT texture cold, too. Wonderful for sushi (yes, it's sticky enough) or rice salad! Such a versatile, delicious, high-quality rice. At the grocery store by me, this is $2.30 a per pound. So to have it delivered to my door for even less... just can't go wrong.

At first I thought I was nuts to buy a case of this rice but I can't find it anywhere and I prefer a short grain on brown rice. It has a nice chewy texture and the flavor is great. I've already opened the second bag in a month so it probably wont last as long as I thought ! I keep it made up in bulk in my fridge...its so easy to re-heat.
