First and foremost, I must say that although I am a huge fan of Alyssa Rose Ivy's works, this one fell a bit short for me.
Let's start with Daisy. After spending the past two years trying to convince others that she is indeed sane, and that Owen actually exists, she decides to set out on her own journey to find him. On her adventure she meets Violet, Hugh and Roland, who immediately show interest in Daisy. I won't give any spoilers, but I must say that Daisy's character in general was slightly annoying. She was very distrustful and naive, always asking the same questions over and over again. I get that she just met the trio, but was it really necessary to be so rude when they only offered their assistance? No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't connect with her. I found myself liking the trio more than Daisy.
This brings us to Owen, her little obsession. So full of angst and confusion for most of the story, I honestly thought I was in the head of a teenage girl half of the time. Deep in hiding with only one friend (who we are introduced to but know almost nothing about), Own is constantly thinking about the one that got away; Daisy. It was difficult getting through the chapters with Owen's point of view simply for the fact that they got boring very quickly.
As for other characters, I'm riding the fence. I found myself getting frustrated often when I was introduced to someone new who sounded important only to learn nothing about them because the author doesn't mention them again. It happens several times in the book. No actual suspense or romance happens until the end of the book, and that's when some of the questions are answered, though not nearly good enough.
The plot itself was full of holes where there could have easily been explanations. Who is Louie, for instance? So many questions go unanswered. It's very frustrating to a reader when something just happens, and the author gives no explanation as to how or why. We're constantly lured in with promised information, only to have it ripped away. The ending was badly placed and very abrupt, leaving the reader hanging after just getting interested. This whole story would have been a lot better if the beginning wasn't as slow.
Overall, I had to give this book only three stars. I will never regret buying a book, especially at that price, but I am a bit disappointed. I will buy the sequel and hope it gets better because I am usually a fan of the author's writing.
Ok, now on to Lure. We get an introduction into the paranormal world that Ms. Ivy has created. The different kinds of paranormals and the different places they hold within the world. Over all if feels like we don't learn that much at all, and with this being a series I am thinking that the amount of information that the author plans to give through out the series is a little bit at a time. It's not until the end that you really know what is happening.
That sort of made me a bit crazy, the information that the Allures have and the very little that they are willing to actually give Daisy was frustrating. They are constantly teasing little bits of information and then refusing to actually say anything useful when Daisy asks for clarification. I also wanted Daisy to woman up a bit and demand to know a little bit more rather then being such a victim to the entire situation.
The first 80% of the book is a bit slow. Not a whole lot happens besides Daisy trying to get to Owen and the little bits of information that the Allures are constantly teasing Daisy with. It's not until you get to the last 20% of the book do things really start to happen. Things are revealed and a story that is worth catching your attention starts to form. The problem, is that just when it starts to pull you in, it's ending. While it is the kind of cliff hanger that gives closer on this portion of the story, there is still sooo much more left to be told. Book 2 of this series has some potential to be really good.
The Allure Chronicles is Owen’s story. It is set in the same paranormal world of The Society that Alyssa Rose Ivy writes so well. I love the idea of multiple series existing alongside each other in the same world. And they each have different paranormals that drift in and out of the books in varying degrees. If you are new to Alyssa Rose Ivy’s paranormal series, I think the Allure Chronicles is a great one to start with. You don’t need to read the other series in order to understand what is going on. The main characters from the Crescent Chronicles and the Empire Chronicles are in the book, but their roles in the story are fully explained. (Of course, I would recommend reading all the series as they are each fantastic) In the Allure chronicles we get to learn all about the mysterious allures. It turns out that the paste the witch (in Seduction’s Kiss) gave Daisy had some Allure essence in it and it is having some interesting side effects on Daisy. I do love that Owen isn’t affected by it. It makes their intense crushes on each other all the more wonderful.
And the two of them are wonderful. I couldn’t read the pages fast enough. I wanted more, more MORE. I think this may be my favorite series of Alyssa Rose Ivy yet. I have enjoyed all of her books, but there is just something about Daisy and Owen. And something about the Allures. I found them completely fascinating. I have so many questions about them! The end of the book nearly broke my heart. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen in the next book. Alyssa Rose Ivy does such a fantastic job with paranormal romances. She is one of my very favorite New Adult authors, and is at the top of my auto buy list.
