Do you have tips to improve absorbency and prevent leaks?
Choosing the right diaper is key to improving absorbency and preventing leaks. The weight chart on the package is a good place to start, but you should also consider your baby's age, what she eats and drinks, and how much she moves around. If your child's close to the end of the weight range on the chart, she might need the next size now. Even babies within the weight range can outgrow the absorbency before they outgrow the fit. And for leaks at night, try the next size up for overnight use only. Luvs Diapers feature NightLock. They're ultra absorbent and have larger tabs to help stop leaks.
How can I prevent bowel movement leaks?
Bowel movement leakage is a very difficult situation. Because stool is not totally liquid, like urine, it doesn't get absorbed into the padding the same way urine does. With the right size, we're sure our diaper's absorbent padding, leg leak barriers, and snug fit will help keep your baby dry, day and night.
If your baby consistently has this experience, it might be time to move into the next size diaper for added absorbency and protection. Babies can outgrow the absorbency and protection level of a diaper before they outgrow the fit. The weight ranges on our packages overlap and are only meant to be guidelines. Other things to consider include:
—eating and drinking habits
—baby's build (for example, a slim child might fit into Size 3 but need the added protection of Size 4)
How do I choose the right size diaper?
Just like you, babies like to wear things that fit just right. The weight ranges on our packages overlap and are only meant to be guidelines for best diaper fit. Choose a size that does not sag or gap, even as your baby crawls and plays. This will help prevent leaks.
How many diapers of each size will my baby need?
There are a lot of factors that determine how many of each size diaper your baby will need. Each baby's weight, shape, size, and growth rate are unique. You'd be the best judge according to your baby's needs.
Why did Luvs make changes to their product design?
Even when you're using a great, reliable diaper, sometimes diaper duty isn't the most pleasant task to undertake. That's why we're always searching for ways to enhance the diaper-changing experience for parents—and their children! After listening to our customers, we've simply replaced our current diaper's backsheet with an adorable, new monkey image—a look that parents surveyed preferred three to one over our current designs and that aims to enhance the diaper-changing experience. The upgrade is purely aesthetic and will not compromise the performance, quality, or value parents expect from the Luvs brand.
What is the grainy/gel like stuff in diapers?
We use absorbent gelling material (AGM) in the padding of our diapers to absorb wetness. This material has a long history of safe use in a variety of products and has been in Pampers and Luvs diapers for more than two decades. Absorbent gelling material is closely related to ingredients widely used in cosmetics and food processing. When added to our diapers, the AGM is dry and granular, but it forms a gel as it absorbs liquid. It's perfectly normal to see some gel on the skin from time to time, especially if the diaper is heavily saturated.
It might help to know the Institute for Polyacrylate Absorbents has researched the safety of consumer products containing absorbent gels and found them to be safe.
Do your diapers contain dioxin?
Our suppliers use elemental chlorine-free processes that do not result in the formation of dioxin. The methods we use to analyze for dioxin are the most advanced government-approved testing methods available and can detect even minute amounts of dioxin, if present.
Purification of the pulp fibers used to make Pampers and Luvs is done to eliminate the impurities that would inhibit our ability to make clean absorbent fibers. By cleaning the fibers in this manner, we can make a better performing product with fewer raw materials, which has clear benefits for the environment. Whitening the fibers is a result of this process but is not its goal.
Do any of your baby products contain latex?
The safety of our products is important to us, and we understand your concerns about latex allergy. We're pleased to reassure you that we've been using spandex elastic instead of natural rubber latex in all Pampers and Luvs diapers, wipes, and training pants since August 1998.

Unfortunately the amount of diapers in the box has gone down TWICE in the last 2 years. For example my size 3 used to be 234 count.... Then it dropped to 204 count... Now its 186 count.
Am I missing something? Are babies pooping less?
The price for the boxes have remained steady the last couple years. Most of my deliveries have been around 25 bucks. So before you jump and buy these, Double check amazon.. As of this posting, you can get the 204 count size 3 for 11 cents LESS than this box.
Where do I begin...
First - Quality. The previous version of Luvs, we had no complaints with. They were in fact thicker than the current "improved" version. We NEVER had leaks at night and it lasted 10pm-6am. Ever since we switched, we have had leaks EVERY night. We have now set an alarm for 2 AM so we can change the diaper!! The quality has dropped to Parent's Choice (Walmart) levels.
Second - False advertising. The new 160 count is NOT their biggest box. You can still buy the 180 count right here on Amazon!! It used to be even bigger before!
Third - Price. Not only did they reduce the count, they decreased the quality and increased the price!!!
Adios Luvs...it was fun while it lasted...
Hello Kirkland/Huggies...you are now in the same price range...
I will be calling the Luvs customer service to exercise their leak proof guarantee. I would recommend all of you do the same.
UPDATE - DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER THAT THE SHILL BELOW IS POSTING. ALL THEY WILL OFFER IS AN $8 coupon for buying another crappy LUVs product.
CALL 1-800-782-1293 for instructions to get a full refund.
You have mail in Receipt, UPC from box and 1 unused diaper to - LUVS Money Back Guarantee, PO BOX 900177, EL PASO, TX 88590-0177
Perhaps as Pampers does own Luvs, this is a way to push people to the more expensive pampers?
*edit -series of comparison pics attached. The larger monkey with purple tabs is the new version. Unfortunately I only have size five of the old style to compare to
1. The purple tabs are smaller than the old style. The old style also had an adhesive closer to the main diaper as well as Velcro type material on the ends
2. The pocket at the bottom of the new diapers seems the same size as the old style but appeared to stick to the diaper, I'm speculating that may be the cause of some leaks but I've only looked at one since I noticed it in comparing the diapers
3. Perhaps most interesting is that there is a size difference in the outside of the diapers, illustrated by the picture with the batteries. There's about a quarter inch less on the new style diapers. It may be the size difference, but I'd find that particular thing odd to mess with in a size four to five
Maybe the manufacturer can comment on the differences and what the impetus behind any changes were?

Here are some of our recent specific problems:
- The tabs on the new diapers are shorter and don't fasten to front of the diaper as well. They seem to pop open at random times.
- FOUR times now, he has full on "leaks". I can't even call it a leak in the traditional since since the diaper was bone dry. Rather the diaper has pulled away from his inner thigh and urine ran straight down his leg (this wasn't a case of the tabs opening or coming loose at the top either, they were secure). Two of the four times it happened overnight.
- Countless regular leaks out the top of the diaper now, since the absorbent strip goes all the way up to the belly button now (which is why I am changing his shirt as often as his pants). This type of leak happens at least once every other day. Sometimes twice. Yesterday three times.
- Small diaper rash bumps now too. Never had that problem with the old Luvs.
- I personally don't think they hold any more than they used too. The diapers themselves are far thinner, so I feel it just spreads the urine out farther up his front and back.
- And lets talk about the crinkle sound. Holy much louder now.
- And that crinkle used to be a good thing. If there was a crinkle noise, he was still dry. The new diaper crinkles equally loud if it is wet or dry. And you know how you can just put your hand down there and "feel" how wet they are. Well not anymore.Read more ›
