It is painful to use on tight muscles. It does make it that much more pleasurable to roll when you realize it no longer hurts, because it got the muscle to release. I am working on range of motion in shoulder and hips. I was Rolling under my shoulder and making faces at the pain, then suddenly no pain. I could reach my arm behind me higher than before. Just by getting it to release. A lot of my muscles are tight, I am coming to realize it might be partially that my atlas was misaligned. I had absolutely no idea lower glutes were an issue, until I used this, now I know another area to work on. I have been told I have a high pain tolerance, and this hurt. I probably pushed into it more than a lot of people would. It worked though. Yay!

43 year old with chronic back issues. Putting this bad boy on the floor and laying on top of it then pushing with my legs makes my back pop like crazy (feels so good!) It is quite firm - pictures don't do it justice - although foam it feels more like very stiff. I've tried various other methods of back pain management - (I bought one of those cushions you sit on) but I think hands down this works the best.
