The world-building felt thin. A veneer of walnut over cardboard. The Guild is never really explained, the hunters are poorly trained, and the wolves are idiots.
I cannot recommend this book, though it is not the worst paranormal book I have read this month.
Not a bad story, but just didn't have that something to make it a good story.
However, there wasn't a lot of character or plot development. There was a lot of glossing over, rushing, and inconsistency. Do we have a strong female lead or is she weak and easily manipulated? Things like that.
I think, with more time in development and editing, this could have been a really great book instead of just mediocre.
The story is predictable, the characters are standard urban fantasy archetypes with no real personalities and no sign of his usual sense of humor.

So, let me preface this review with the fact this is not my typical choice of genre. I am generally a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, space opera, and LitRPG fan.Read more
