This was my first experience with Lyft and I was very impressed with the ease of the process! I had a very nice driver, Timothy. The cost was very reasonable too. I really appreciated the information provided - name of driver, make and color of vehicle and license plate number. I would definitely use Lyft again in the future.

Who designed this terrible app?

This app is very poorly designed. It continually gets stuck loading and there is no way to return to a home screen. In order to get it to work you have to uninstall and reinstall. Out of three rides, I had to reinstall the app four times!

Only works one time per install

Once installed, it works well... but only once. I used it to go to the doctor, but it died after that use. I had to completely uninstall and reinstall the app in order to get home. This keeps happening with every use. Unfortunately, I have a Windows phone which doesn't support the Lyft app, so I'm stuck with this version. Totally sucks, since I am afraid of it dying and leaving me stranded somewhere... a dangerous situation for an older person who has a disability. This really needs to be addressed either by Amazon or Lyft sooner rather than later.

What is the point

Great app for riders. For being a driver, it's Fool's gold!

There's good news and bad news. The good news is as a ride request app, Lyft is excellent. Easy to use, pinpoints your location if you use common sense when setting up.
The bad news, this is also the app to being a driver for Lyft. I drove for Lyft for 6 months. I gave over 1,300 rides. I thought I was making a somewhat decent extra income. I'm a retired senior with a new car and thought I could at least earn the monthly new car payment. Then after 5 1/2 months I stopped procrastinating and went to an accountant to tell me what my tax consequences were, since I knew that was waiting for me eventually. OMG what a shock! I knew up front Lyft for 2017 increased its commission by 40% from 15 to 25% of their ride fares. I did not anticipate IRS tax rate to be another 25% after Lyft take. My accountant said based on my first 5 months of earnings and assuming my average intake for subsequent months till year's end, I needed to send the US Treasury $1000 per month till the end of the year. Yep, $1000 per mo. to stay even board with Uncle Sam. Knowing all the numbers exactly, after my visit, I did a detailed mathematical analysis of this part time "side hustle" as they say. I calculated my last full month, which was an average month. I have an app called MileIQ which calculates my mileage 24/7 and makes it easy to designate all business miles. The Lyft app allows you to breakdown every dollar you've made weekly, or monthly, or year to date whatever. I purchased my new Toyota RAV4 in Feb 2017 and started with Lyft the first week in March 2017. At the middle of August 2017 I hit 30,000 miles. Yep, that's a 60,000 mile a year pace. If you do not have a great car, I guarantee you'll run that car into the the ground very quickly. Proper and short interval maintenance is a must.
Here's the really bad news you've been waiting for. I totaled my earnings (after Lyft 25% commission) minus federal tax, minus pro rated maintenance costs, minus cost of gasoline, plus business miles tax allowance .535 cents a mile. The result is I drove for 6 months making about $6 per hour, yep $6! And the kicker? Check in with your insurance company prior to driving any rideshare. Some companies like AAA don't cover you at all. Make sure yours does! If it does provide the rideshare endorsement which negates any coverage whatsoever when driving in a rideshare network, you are then covered by the Lyft policy. They give themselves $1,000,000 of bodily injury coverage protection and they give you a $2500 deductible for physical damage coverage on your car. Yep, you'll be paying $2500 of the damages to your car in any accident presuming you can't prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the fault was someone else, who also happens to have insurance of course. In other words you'll be paying out of pocket for virtually all of your accidents when in network. As of this writing I no longer drive with Lyft. I'm still recovering from the shock of my tax liability. I no longer pay approx $20 in gasoline literally every other day to fill my RAV4 getting 26 miles per gallon. Hey, some people need $6 and hour. I sense though that most are like me. They make what seems like a lot more than that only to do their taxes way later when the truth then stares them in the wallet.

Does not work well

this app works horribly on kindle. More than 75% of the time it says "poor connectivity" and won't allow me to request a ride. Uninstalling and reinstalling does not fix the problem. It just does not work properly. It is so frustrating. I did want to add that on the rare occasion when I can request a ride, the service itself is good. The divers are nice and friendly.

Horrendous Experience!!!

Their app would not let me enter the space #, so I couldn't give the complete address. I texted them on 2 occasions, literally BEGGING them to send me a phone #, or the driver's #, so my friend wouldn't miss her flight. They answered my emergency customer service message via email about 2 HOURS after I sent it and even then, it was clear they hadn't read the whole message. Long story short, the driver and rider couldn't find each other due to their lyft's app being faulty, my friend missed her flight, I had to spend $70 instead of the quoted $15 due to the "emergency - oh my gosh she's got to get there NOW! The airline charged her $75 to change her flight since she had already missed it AND lyft was kind enough to charge me a missed ride fee. I can't imagine the circumstance that would lead me to EVER accept a ride lyft again!
