I found the author at the NW Bookfest. After reading the back of the book, I had to download it.
I found the story line kept my interest through the first half of the book. The suspense wained as Peter reacted to all the emotion of court and jury waiting room. It was over done and distracting. I skipped a lot of pages skimming until the story caught my interest again.
There were too many subplots that again were a distraction.
I was a bit disappointed at the end. It felt rushed and some of the issues were assumed to be tied up.
I have to say the book is worth buying and reading even if for the trial section.I'll give Gary a second chance with his next book.

Peter Robertson's life takes a gut wrenching turn, and veers out of control from there as a succession of problems beset him. Readers will twist and turn, waiting to see how, when, and where Peter careens off the proverbial cliff. Every character has their secrets, and no one is to be trusted. Just as you think the story reaches its conclusion, Corbin throws yet another plot twist into the mix, and still another. A well-written legal suspense that will suck you in and hold you in taught anticipation.

This is a very well written book. It's a masterful orchestration of elements that you don't often see together in contemporary suspense novels. The writing is of literary caliber but it is an unpretensious, undiluted page turner. It has a film noirish quality of luring your sympathy and moral integrity into some dimly lit places. There are some outlandish coincidences in the plot but your are seduced into forgetting to notice them. The premise for this story grabbed me before I even bought the book. Serving on a jury is a tremendous, and nerve-wracking responsibility. And to know that you committed the crime while it's being tried, just blows my mind. The story exceeded my expectations. I was on the edge of my seat until the very, very surprising end. Corbin is definitely a new author to follow. Lying in Judgement is terrific!

The story idea is excellent and the author handled it capably. I enjoyed it as far as that was concerned, but there were too many convenient plot twists for my own taste. That might not be true for everyone. I'm super picky.

This is a really fun and satisfying read, all the way up to the very end. I'm not normally a mystery fan; probably because they aren't all written as well as this one is. Corbin's writing style is a perfect balance of action and description, bringing in all the senses for a big ride. His chapter-by-chapter reveals kept me thrilled and guessing, the characters were realistic and the details and action accurate. There was more than one gasp out loud while reading this!
There is a fair bit of graphic violence in this story. Even so, we don't have maniacal evil characters that are supernatural or any such dark forces. In the end, though, there is a bit more of a human dark-streak in our favorite characters than we thought... which was quite entertaining.
If you are looking for a fast, fun read for a weekend away or maybe a great addition to your summer mysteries, I can recommend this one highly.

I'm pretty into books about court cases and catching criminals and have read many.
Lying in Judgment is very dramatic and has an original twist. The tension and stakes are both high. Lots of dialogue and great character descriptions. There are some wonderful lines describing characters such as, "Furry eyebrows formed mirrored arcs converging at his nose."
If you like Patterson or Cornwell, check this one out.

A profoundly compelling premise which carries strongly throughout the novel. The courtroom scenes were some of the most authentic and well written that I have some across. The character development, pacing, imagery and plot line were all very strong. My only complaint was the over done (to me) depiction of the protagonist's emotional and physical reactions as he faced his actions and their consequences.
A strong debut and I look forward to more of Gary Corbin's work.
