While I haven't been reloading all that long, I've been a very serious shooter for five years now, and I've talked with a lot of reloaders in that time. Everyone has their favorite brand of reloading equipment. I have equipment on my bench from RCBS, Frankford Arsenal, Lee, Hornady, Redding, Lyman, and others. And I'm not one to declare that any brand is, across the board, better than another. I want the best piece of equipment for the job, no matter who made it.

Lyman's #55 powder measure is THE standard for powder measures. When I first got this thing, I took it out of the packaging, cleaned it with rubbing alcohol (to remove packing oils), and filled it with Unique. I spent a few minutes getting it close to the range I wanted it to throw, and just a few more seconds really getting it precisely dialed in.
I then spent a good bit of time throwing charge after charge that weighed either 4.2 or 4.3 grains. I just kept throwing, weighing, and dumping the powder back in the hopper. That's even tighter than a true +/- .1 grain consistency! If you want it closer than that, you'd better be using a trickler on every round.

I would recommend this powder measure to anyone who reloads, from the newest of the new to the fifty-year veteran. Buy this measure and you will NOT ever spend more money on another.

This Powder Measure came with my Lyman reloading press set and it has proven to provide amazingly consistent measures. We installed this into a free a space on my press using the included adapter, but it also has an integrated clamp that can be directly attached to a tabletop for standalone use. Figuring out how to set the unit to dispense the correct amount of powder was fairly confusing reading the directions, but it was actually straight forward once we started to play with the controls.

I am very pleased with how well this works!

Highly Recommended!

I got a Lee Loading Kit for Christmas which I like a lot. However, when I was doing custom reloading some years ago I had all Lyman equipment and really liked the powder measure - much heftier than the Lee - so I ordered this one. Lyman has gotten better with years - powder measure is basically the same - fine adjusments much better than Lee - but the measure now has a buffer in the bottom that causes the powder to fill the measuring cavity more evenly. Nice addition to an already awesome product.

Mounted on a turret, Works well but the locking screw is a little big and grinds on the support screw on the body. Other than that little issue I like this, it works well and easy to operate. Consistent in its measurements, varies about 1/10 of a gram.

No complaints really, using for Varget and 4064 'stick' or extruded powders it can be hard to do unless you either use a firm hand or a quick motion, but once you get it dialed in and figure out a consistent routine got it dropping pretty consistent loads within a 10th. At first I was weighing every charge, zero brass, drop charge, weigh again, but then once the numbers dialed in I only weigh 1 in 10 or so.

I ran 1 lb through it to start, to "break it in" and get rid of any oil or sticky spots that might mess up my loads.
Yes, would recommend.

Update, I have since upgraded to the Lyman auto charge station and I love it, but it's much more expensive.
I don't use this anymore but I was very happy with it as a starter setup. I will keep it around as a backup or for when I have a friend over helping me.
You can use this for everything though, even precision if you load light and then top things off on the scale. Great value for the price.

I spent a good hour trying to get this thing to throw a consistent load with h335 and I ended up deciding that I just cannot trust this thing. I have a beam scale and a digital scale that are exactly matched up, and I used them to check the accuracy of this thing. I was trying to dial it in at 25 grains of h335 and sometimes it would be right on the money, but it would usually be off my about .2 or .3 grains. I could live with that, but on occasion it would be off as much as 1 grain. There is device that is attached to the side of this thing that is supposed to settle the powder so that you get a consistent charge. I would use this when the handle was up to ensure that the powder settled, and I would use it again after I dropped the handle to ensure that all the excess powder was out of the drop tube. Maybe it could have been the specific powder that I was using, but my other powders are similar so I did't even bother spending the time to test any other powder. Like I said, after this, I just cannot trust this thing. It will be going back and I will just continue to hand measure every load.

Won't drop a consistent charge. Using H335, this measure won't do better than +-.3gr. Most other powders aren't much better. Every screw on this powder measure comes loose very quickly, I have to retighten the charge bar screws every 15 or so drops, and the drum screw needs to be retightened every 150 or so drops. I used this for a year, and I am finally fed up with it. After a year, I'm confident that it's not user error. This is being sent back to Lyman. If they send it right back to me, or send me a new one, I am selling it and trying something else. This is junk.
