Thanks Sharon for a fantastic book!
It's also a great book for friends and family members who are trying to understand the disease and help someone they love to fight it. I found myself gaining a much better understanding of the disease and the many effects it has on those suffering from the illness as well as those trying to help them. Dr. Robert Mozayeni, the co-author, provides insight as a knowledgeable physician who has been successful at treating these diseases and who provides unending support to his patients. His contributions will also be helpful to other physicians currently treating patients.
It is clear that the authors spent a great deal of time creating this guide. The format allows the reader to see the perspective of both physician and patient when it comes to treatment and various issues related to Lyme and its co-infections and it covers the various effects of the disease, including the emotional toll on the patient and the patient’s family and friends. There is much for everyone, including a number of useful tips at the end of the book designed to make life easier for the patient. What a gift this book is to those searching for answers and hope.
This book covers Bartonella. I’ve learned that Bartonella can be a co-infection of Lyme, but it also is an infection that you can get by itself, and that Bartonella may be more prevalent than Lyme/Borrelia. It is important to get testing from specialty labs. Only a specialty lab detected my daughter’s Bartonella. Also, this is the first book that I have encountered that covers small vessel disease.
Sharon covers great questions to ask when interviewing a new physician. I wish I would have known this on the start of our journey of finding a physician who knew what was wrong with my daughter and how to treat her.
There are great sections on dietary recommendations including the simplest changes to make and on the three phases of healing: physical, emotional/mental, and spiritual.
You don’t have to read the book cover to cover. I am reading the chapters in the order that they most interest me, so I can best help my daughter. This is the most thorough book I have read on Lyme and Bartonella. I highly recommend Lyme Savvy.
