Blog postGathering a bouquet from a field
red, yellow, lavender,
she danced it down the path,
‘round the corner
to the porch,
her face beaming morning.
They didn’t return the smile;
with disparaging stares, remarked
“She’s been out pulling weeds again.”

Blog postWe are all punching a time clock,
pushing back tears, filing troubles away
into a locked cabinet,
brushing makeup over scars
waiting for the dark
to hide the mess.
In the chill; the uninhabited spaces
where frowns replace smiles-
singled out, exploited
just because we don’t agree.
Whatever happened to kindness?
a touch, a quiet sigh
within a glance,
a nod when passing
another human in the street?

Blog postSaturday mornings do shine
like a new beginning,
feet shuffle slowly
to find coffee,
but I’d rather stay in bed.
Through the curtains,
love lights your eyes;
your smile greeting mine
oblivious to worries.
Let’s turn down the sound
of anything that dims the mood.
Silence isn’t so quiet
when I look in your eyes
like stars telling stories
only we have heard;
I wish we could stop time

Blog postHow lovely it is
to have a heart so filled with love
that there is scarcely a square inch
to make room
for more affection,
more tenderness
to tie a ribbon around
and share
with a friend, a stranger;
this gift
of love.
Fingers turn pages,
eyes scan scripture after scripture
in this book with golden edges
and I cannot find a word
more beautiful,
more innate,
more powerful than love.

Blog postYou know me, April.
I arrived in the middle of the night,
and I will go the same way.
This last minute muse,
this problem with procrastinating
are among my many faults,
but, my beloved Spring is forgiving,
lets me bloom between the weeds,
laugh through the rushing winds
and land under my shady tree;
a poem, never far from my tongue.

Blog postDriving, I felt an urgency,
running from the parking garage
into the hospital,
onto the elevator.
I felt a chill,
dreading the numbers
lighting up, 2, 3
4 and the door opened.
I could already see the light
from your room
walking down the hallway,
I knew before I entered,
the bed would be empty.
I left my heart
on the ground floor.

Blog postI remember the cardigan you wore;
baby blue with little pearl buttons
as you sat on a barstool in the kitchen
reciting the rosary at 5:00 am-
your quiet time while we all slept.
I wondered why you were weeping,
but, now I understand
the weight you felt
upon slender shoulders;
a soft voice concealing a warrior
interceding in prayer
for us all.

Blog postI miss you most on mornings
when birds sing joyfully
cool breezes blowing through my hair,
feet tickled by dew kissed blossoms.
I hear you on lazy afternoons
telling stories of the good old days
when you played the slide trombone
and loved to dance;
sharing laughter
and butterscotch candy.
I feel you on summer nights
when crickets hum
and trains rumble past
leaving my heart aching
to see your silhouette<4 months ago Read more
