I remember clearly the day that I heard this LP
for the 1st time. 9 o'clock in the morning outside Rock City
(the record store that I bought it from) waiting for the store
to open. I grab the record and go straight to home. I tell my mother
to not disturb me for the next 45 minutes. I put the needle on the first song
SMOKESTACK LIGHTNIN' and I almost jumped to the roof.
Skynyrd were back. Every song was a revelation. Ed King's guitar
was singin'. What can I say. 21 years later I still feel the same about the album.
Tom Dowd is the producer. It 's a pity that the current version of the band
does not play any songs from this period.
Don't think about it too much. BUY IT.

IT'S A KILLER!!! TUNE # 10
Nine of the eleven tunes are great, but give it a couple listens before you judge, considering the tragedy it was not well recieved but is the best L.P. overall that Johnny Van Zant's Lynyrd Skynyrd has produced so far in my opinion.
This is my 2nd copy I wore the first one out. Skynyrd has always been my favorite band ever, but this L.P. did not get any airplay with the exception of Smokestack Lightning which is not my favorite on the L.P. should be re-released w/ videos give it a listen it's a killer.

This has to be one of my favourite albums for some time now from start to finish it is a great rockin album perfect for driving or working at home to. I know some old time fans have or will say that it is not as good as the original band stuff but I think it is just as great, sure slightly different but still great, but it was always going to be hard for the band releasing new material and comparisons being made but give it a listen, don't compare and you won't be disappointed and you will find yourself rockin and singing along before you know it.

I LOVE the original band, obsessively. I was very reluctant to give the reboot band a shot but eventually did, circa Last Rebel. I'm not crazy about the guns and God stuff personally (I like guns, and God, but not on rock records). This album is actually tremendous and - All Hail Ed King.

This is skynyrds first album since 1977. This album proves that they still have the passion for music as they did back in the 70s. From the heartwarming acoustic song PURE AND SIMPLE to the rock sounding drive of ITS A KILLER. This album has it all. A must have for the collection.

I really enjoyed this music. Not the original group but has some decent songs. It's still Southern Rock.

Surprisingly this revamped -for-the-90's Lynyrd Skynyrd realises it's goal by coming very close to the original group's sound. It is nice to see that these guys haven't given up the faith.

As a person who grew up in the late '80s and the '90s, I always heard a lot of old timers say hateful things to the then (and current) line up of Lynyrd Skynyrd. The band being led by Gary Rossington and original vocalist Ronnie's brother Johnny Van Zant have taken a lot of abuse over the years and it has always made me a little hesitant to visit their early reunion material.
My first proper taste of Lynyrd Skynyrd was of course their first two albums, must have classics without any debate. That was until Vicious Cycle came out. A hard hitting modern rock album that showed the band living the life and sounding as good as ever. It is clear between the two that Lynyrd Skynyrd have changed over the years and it is interesting to hear how that divide started with the first official reunion album, 1991.
1991 is a great release that features a lot of the bands surviving members. Each person in the band brings their all as they play some good solid southern rock music. There are plenty of sick leads, grooving rhythms and heavy beats. The album as a whole is consistently good and really says a lot of the musicians in the band that they can retain that level of quality after all these years of injuries and solo projects.
Of course, 1991 does not sound like old school '70s Lynyrd Skynyrd and there I think lies the main issue with this record. People want that kick of nostalgia and an album like this does not do that. This is a band moving on from the past instead of reliving it and is the main reason why I enjoyed it as much as I did. Johnny's lyrics aren't quite as good as his brothers. He seems to lack the subtlety that made Ronnie so popular but he does know how to write a good catchy chorus and can sing just as good as his brother.
1991 is not an album that boasts any classic tracks. Those looking for Sweet Home Alabama 2 are not going to find it here. But those who can go without nostalgia will find the band clearly moved on and in doing so, they released a really good album. Much like the majority of the bands post reunion material, I consider it highly underrated and deserves a bit of attention.

as good as the original classic skynyrd lineup this album re-establishes the brand with some fine southern rock. This album hits the groove from the getgo and never lets up til the last note fades out. Totally unhip and untrendy for the critics, anyone who ever considered buying a big hat and growing a beard will love the sentiments expressed in every track on this all killer no filler classic. Buy it now and plug in your air guitar - bask in the sweet Florida sunshine blazing out of your speakers. Get a tan and smile.

Not as great as the more recent stuff. I found the female backing vocals over used. If you love last of a dying breed then this will sound a bit limp.

I only recently started listening to previous incarnations of Skynyrd after seeing the current line up live in Glasgow. Decided to buy some of their previous albums and was not disappointed. Would also recommend their latest album God & Guns.
