Living in New York City, I have been approached by many men saying all the things they would do for me if allowed, clean my home etc., I did not know about the lifestyle so I did not know they were Subs approaching me, most were dressed in power suits giving me their business cards, I guess I looked like a Domme to them, wish I had read this book before, I would have known what I was and what to do, darn..... I probably passed up my `Marcus', can I redo?
I like how its shows BDSM in a different light, while showing us that whether Sub/Dom/Domme etc, there is much to learn about it and not to just look down our noses at it.
It also shows that being a male Sub does not mean he is weak, but that he chooses to be submissive to the right woman/partner who also meets his needs. That to me actually shows that he is a strong man, who is quite secure within himself.
"Lyon on a Leash" is makes us think or realize that much of what is written within this book is what we would like to be true in our relationships, ... Brinks said to Marcus, that he had his woman on lockdown and asked him how did he accomplish that, to which Marcus replied, without exact quotes, that he treats her like the queen that she is every minute of the day, by making sure she has a happy productive day, essentially doing whatever it takes to make her happy! That is all we wish from our love relationships with one another, whatever our lifestyles. I was impressed by Marcus because if a man like that exist, he would make many women happy.
Though I am unfamiliar with dominate relationships I do have many friends who are either Subs / Doms or in the lifestyle in some way. But have always been on the outside not even willing to look at it. So thank you Erosa for opening my eyes into some of their thoughts.
The erotica was fantastic. Which has some of the best written erotic scenes I've read, whew.... very well executed.
I have to say, after reading this book, I am officially saying I am a Domme who would definitely like to find her Marcus, any takers?
I didn't want this book to end.
Please give this book a chance - you will not regret it!
I'm am glad that I bought it! Loved the book! Well done Ms. Knowles.
Can you please write some more, like this. I have read this book about 5 times, I'll have to put it down now, I just bought some new books, but will get back to it soon, it just hit's the spot. Thank you..
The progression of the relationship is all off page. Even the discussion of the terms is told to us as a recap of a conversation that Marcus and Vera supposedly already had, off page. Terms are the foundation of service! We needed to be privy to that. We spend more time admiring Vera's house, her S-class Mercedes Benz and talking about her high profile job as a lawyer, than we do showing any real, quality time with Marcus. Apart from him cooking meals, and meeting her at the door with sparkling water with a slice of lemon when she got home from work, there's nothing of note. Forget training, or protocol, I mean any interaction or relationship. They go to a charity benefit, deal with drama with her boss at work, we get some sex here and there and Marcus gets one punishment but there is no detail. Again, it's all off page. No actual dealing with how they got through the punishment. Just 'the punishment was for 48hours and they were glad when it was over'. Really?? Then there are the time jumps. Six weeks. Then 5 months. When I saw 'They'd been together five months' and Vera was all, 'Marcus, will you wear my collar?' I almost fell off my bed. Talk of commitment ceremonies. Umm what??? Forget the fact that Marcus wanted a relationship while Vera was still fooling herself thinking she wanted D/s only, collaring under those circumstances was just a ludicrous idea.
At 70% I had to bail. I didn't care anymore. I actually really liked Marcus and was hoping Vera would be a worthy Domme to him. Maybe she got better after 70%; I didn't care enough to find out.
With the exception of Marcus calling Vera Mistress and Ma'am, this could have been any interracial romance with a very attentive and protective man who worked from home. It's a basic romance, with a little kink. Not enough to keep me reading till the end. 2.5 stars.
I found it refreshing from the start with the charity auction of submissive males with Dommes (female Dominants) bidding on them. From Vera's questions to Marcus, their misunderstandings, meeting the other Dommes to finding out what their level one protocol was, I was absorbed in this story. Marguerite was a mother figure to Vera and a Domme with her own subs. I was thrilled with the number of Dommes in this story. Some were helpful, and one was downright mean.
Then there was Brinks and his hitting on Vera (Domme/Mistress). He was a married man, and Vera constantly rebuffed him. That story line had me guessing where it might lead and it surprised me as to how it unfolded.
It was unclear of the ethnicity of Vera and Marcus for a while, which proved to be less important to me.
Most of all this is an erotic romance between Vera and Marcus. They fit each other in ways that they never did with anyone else. They faced some tough, unexpected challenges. They made mistakes. But most of all, it is about being loved for who you are as you are, not needing to hide anything.
So, if you are looking for a bdsm story with floggers, whips, etc., this is not what this offers. I found this to be a thoroughly enjoyable, sexy read. This is the first book I have read by this author. I hope that her other books are as good or better.
