Lysol does not claim this product kills mold -- I'm sure some government idiot would go after them if they did. But I WILL make this claim!!! I have used Lysol Original Concentrate for over 40 years in 8 older houses and, if you treat a damp, moldy basement with it, the mold stays away for years. Try it under your smelly kitchen or bathroom sink where the old plumbing has caused mold from leaks over the years. The strong Lysol odor immediately covers up the mold smell --- but wait! Long after the Lysol smell is gone, the mold smell does not come back! Nor do the white and black mold patches reappear. The EPA wants you to tear down a building if it has mold but I will share a way to save that building or house for about $40. ($10 for the Lysol and $20-$30 for a face mask filter). WARNING: Do not use this method without a suitable FILTER face mask or it will hurt your lungs! MY METHOD: Put a double-dose concentration of the Lysol Concentrate (maybe 3 oz per gallon of water) into a paint sprayer or garden sprayer and mist the heck out of your basement or other affected area. Get it in the edges and corners and everywhere it gets damp. Let it fly into the walls, ceiling and the air itself (mold spores are in the air). Then leave the area for a few hours. You have just saved yourself tens of thousands of dollars in rebuilding or "mold-removal" costs. DISCLAIMERS: 1. This only works with Original brown-bottle Concentrate -- forget the spray cans and other scents, they don't have the same chemical; 2. I am not a scientist, just a very experienced DIY homeowner; 3. I have NO relationship to Lysol or any seller and I'm not trying to sell you anything; 4. If your basement leaks or is continuously damp, you should try to fix the source of the problem or you may have to spray every year; 5.Read more ›

Lysol, the original cleaner is by far superior to any other product I have used. I am confident that the germs are being killed and my house smells so very clean. It takes such a small amount (in water) to do the job. I can remember my Mom using this product in her home and my brother and I rarely were ill. It is hard to find on the market shelf so I am so pleased that I can order it over the web site.
A happy homemaker,
Darlene A

I grew up with the original Lysol concentrate in the dark glass bottle & i can't live without it! Am very disappointed that I cannot find it anymore in any of the stores around my area. I specifically use this for disinfecting my family's bedding. It seems to help tremendously with my oldest daughter's allergies.

Oh please people forget about the pleasant fresh smell and concentrate on what it's function is. That being killing bacteria, viruses, molds, and nazis.

Lysol: (benzalkonium chloride with it's strong cousin chlorophenol) will kill just about any germ or German that comes at you. You may argue that Chlorine ( bleach) is more efficacious because it is commonly used in swimming pools, but it's not. The reason it is used in pools is because Lysol is toxic to fish and invertebrates. So when they flush that pool water away they'd wipe out everything down stream. Well I guess they're doin that with other chemicals anyway.

Formalin is a more powerful disinfective that Lysol, but it is highly carcinogenic.

You don't believe me? Lysol is THE disinfective used at the CDC bank of all things nasty & infective. They spray down the scientists after they come out of the bioterrorism bug room with that outerspace suit on.

What I'm gettin at is that this is the stuff to keep things clean around the house.

Oh and what about alcohol? Soap and water are better that ETOH.

I started using this product when we had a problem with lice and needed to wash colored clothes for which bleach just couldn't be used. It took care of the disinfectant and also made the clothes bright and clean. I now use it for any laundry needs that call for disinfectant.

Lysol concentrate cleaner is the best! Too bad it's so difficult to find. It smells clean - not artifical pine or lemon scent, just clean & sterile.
It works great in the laudry too if you need to remove pet odors in particular.

My Grandmother used to use this stuff all the time when cleaning kitchens and bathrooms when I was younger. The smell reminds me of carefree afternoons at my grandma's house and new shoes.

When I went to look for it at any of the major stores It was nowhere to be found. I was surprised by the price per bottle but you really don't need a whole lot of the stuff - about 1 tsp per gallon will do the trick. You can use more if you want the lysol smell to be a little more potent. It may not whiten as well as clorox/bleach cleaners but it leaves a much better smell in my opinion.

It gets rid of virtually any smell you can think of. I used it in my basement where the previous owners of the home let multiple dugs run rampant and do their dirty down there. After hosing the floor and walls down and scrubbing with a deck scrubber and then picking up the large debris I mopped on the cleaner mixed with hot water. It worked. My basement no longer stinks like dog defecation.
