Comfort and Convenience
The Studiophile Q40s are designed to go the distance with you--from traveling the globe to marathon studio sessions. A collapsible design means they'll easily fit in your carry-on luggage. The included storage bag protects them from dust and damage. The convenient removable and replaceable cord extends the life of your investment. And the large, padded ear cups completely surround your ears, ensuring a comfortable fit hour after hour.
Full frequency response owes much to the size and construction of a speaker's driver. The Studiophile Q40 headphones feature extra-large 40mm-diameter drivers--bigger than most other headphones--for extended low frequencies. Bass response is also enhanced by efficient components like neodymium magnets, copper-clad aluminum voice coils and vented diaphragms made of low-mass treated mylar. These elements come together in M-Audio's custom enclosure, which has been specially tuned to further maximize low-frequency extension.
Closed-back, Circum-aural Design
With sealed backings and comfortable ear cups that completely surround the ears, the Studiophile Q40 headphones deliver excellent sonic isolation for accurate monitoring. You'll hear more detail at lower volumes, so you can protect your hearing while tracking, mixing or listening in any noisy environment. In addition, the Q40 headphones afford privacy when working in a shared space.
Full Frequency Response
Headphones deliver a level of sound quality matched only by speakers costing a great deal more--especially when it comes to low frequencies. With the Studiophile Q40 headphones, you'll feel like you're listening to a full-sized set of reference monitors in a professional studio environment. The Q40s provide excellent imaging and a wide sound stage for accurate mixing--without the hassle of worrying about speaker placement or room acoustics.

My low rating is due more to build quality than sound. One of the clips that holds the phones to the headband came off after a year and I have had to patch it together myself. It is rather uncomfortable now and doesn't get much use.
I looked for a good pair of headphones for the price, Sony, Audio Technica, Bose, etc. I finally came to M-Audio, who I've used their products with different musical components and have always had good things to say about them. I received these and couldn't wait to use them. The sound was very, very, VERY clean. Crisp highs, great deep bass, but it wasn't overpowering. They're a solid pair of headphones, especially for the price you pay. Frequency of the lows and highs are awesome, definitely beat out Beats. They are very well constructed, and they actually look pretty good! They are just a little big, but I'm coming from the small set of on-ear headphones. Easily blocks out the sound, even with no music on.
The only con is that they fit a little tight, and they may get a little uncomfortable after a while, but if you take them off for a minute or two, you'll be fine. I've had these for about the past 6 months, and they're definitely one of my top buys. I'd highly recommend anyone that is looking for a great pair of headphones to take a chance on these!
At almost half the price of the Audio Technica M50, I highly recommend you give this pair a try first. It may not looks as nice (has a kind of goofy "open" look to it's drivers although it is a closed headphone), but performance wise really has a lot of other +$100 headphones easily beat. These things are amazing for EDM and anything electronic.
I eventually sold my pair of Q40's (with reluctance), to upgrade to a pair of Fidelio X1's (also an amazing pair of headphones for the value).
Again, for under a hundred dollars, this headphone is very impressive and quite the hidden gem. Can't promote these enough!

These actually look pretty good. Of course they're not as cool looking as some V-Moda's or Denon's but they look great in a subtle way.Read more
Great bass and mids, a little harsh in the highs.
