Super DAC
Super DAC is a USB digital to analog converter with stereo RCA analog outputs and both coaxial and optical digital outputs. With audiophile-grade Wolfson DAC/ADCs, the M-Audio Super DAC performs 24-bit/192kHz high-definition audio conversion over a USB 2.0 connection. This results in the highest possible audio quality, which is critical for users who want to connect their audio equipment to their computer but are not satisfied with the sound quality of the typical computer sound card or the compression limitations of a Bluetooth connection. Six sampling rates between 44.1 and 192kHz are user selectable so you can achieve the exact performance level needed for any given circumstance.
Super DAC has a built-in high quality headphone amplifier with both ¼-inch and 1/8-inch jacks, for connecting any headphones directly without the need for an adapter. It also features analog stereo RCA line outs and coaxial and optical digital output connections, so you can easily connect a wide array of external equipment. Since virtually all high-quality audio equipment has a digital input, Super DAC’s optical and coaxial digital outputs are perfect for driving that equipment with a pure digital signal—especially valuable since most computers do not have a digital output.
Super DAC is USB-bus-powered or can use an optional AC wall adapter (not included). The M-Audio Super DAC is the answer when you require reference-quality sound from your computer.

The M-Audio SuperDAC is a solid, attractive DAC with a good feature set. I really liked the way it sounded from the moment I first switched it on. But there's a lot of competition at this price level, with companies trying to distinguish themselves not just on sound quality and features but on design and how the user experiences the device.
DAC CHIP: The SuperDAC uses one Wolfson WM8740 SEDS chip. This DAC/ADC chip has been around for some time, and is well regarded.
DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY: The Super DAC seems fairly well-built and attractively designed. The switches and connectors seem solid. It looks better in person than in the pictures, for some reason. The Super DAC is 3-1/2 inches wide, 4 inches deep (including the switches on the front and the connectors on the back, but not including room for the connected cables); and just over 1-5/8" high including the volume control. The volume control has about 40 steps; it's functional but not especially nice to use.
PACKAGE CONTENTS: Besides the Super DAC, the package includes a USB-to-Mini-USB cable; an RCA cable; and the user guide. The cables are somewhat basic but will get you connected.
POWER SUPPLY NOT INCLUDED: I can understand somewhat why M-Audio didn't include a power supply. It would have added to the production cost, and there's a real question as to whether most people would actually use a power supply. Computer users can draw power from a USB port. High-end audiophiles would no doubt be skeptical and upgrade the power supply. However, on balance and at this price it would have been nice to have a power supply included. M-Audio can source a power supply much more easily than we can.Read more ›

I am extremely impressed with this DAC. I was looking for an external "sound card" and after trying a couple from another big brand, I decided to go with this DAC instead. Installation was brainless and the sound quality from this thing is truly incredible. It also has a very high quality headphone amp. I have it hooked up to my M- Audio AV-40 monitors and it's a great combo. I've had this on my Wish List for a little while now, but one day last week the price dropped down to $93.95. I have no idea why, but I jumped on it. The package also came with a high quality RCA to RCA cable, which I wasn't expecting. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this item. Compact, very well built, and sound quality is some of the best I've heard.

The is absolutely the best USB DAC I have ever used and I have tried MANY of them. The ONLY thing M-Audio could do differently is include the drivers. I personally don't have an issue with downloading them and it is actually my preferred method, but I could see where on a consumer grade product they should be included in some way.
The sound in amazing with my Sennheiser HD598 headphones and I love being able to have the optical out as well to power my Logitech 5.1 Surround setup. Up to this point I had been using a Soundblaster Omni 5.1, which I was quite pleased with, but I really felt that the Logitech drivers were "muddying" up the sound. I was correct. The Super DAC gives me a crystal clear audio signal and has fully met my expectations and gone beyond.

I bought this for my Mac Mini so I had a headphone jack that was easy to use as well as increasing the quality of sound. These did that and then some. The sound quality was excellent, I was very happy with the sound quality. The knob is only used for the volume of the headphones. I have this hooked up to my 5.1 Surround sound receiver to increase sound quality running to the receiver. All around great product and I would buy it again.
