I live in NYC. The neighbors (and their kids) were driving me nuts, because the hallway is all stone and tile. Every little sound echoes, never mind when a group of 10 kids is running up and down the hallway screaming.
Cue closed cell foam tape. Figured I'd give it a shot, didn't cost that much, might help.
And it did. It didn't block all sound (not what I was expecting), but it did cut down on noise volume coming into the apartment from outside by at least 50%. Which takes a bit of the edge off those screaming kids I mentioned. Or the little bastitch that hangs around outside my door bouncing his ball again and again.
Hmmm... maybe some superglue and tacks will take care of that one...
The adhesive isn't really sticky feeling so I thought it was going to come off easily but it's still holding fine a month later. Never had problems with it like other reviewers but I imagine if you keep unsticking and resticking it will not hold.
The only trouble was closing the door after. The first time I didn't think it would close at all. I had to lean against it hard to deadbolt it. It got much easier after a few days but I still need to pull on the knob while locking the deadbolt with my key. But that's a small price to pay for peace of mind.
Caution: it is extremely hard to get off once it is firmly placed on.
We put this around our entire door frame, and within hours could no longer pull the door open. The weatherstrip was adhered as intended to the door frame, but then also adhered to the door. This is probably limited to surfaces that are metal or have a glossy finish - our door is metal with a gloss paint. Ultimately, I had to put all my energy into pulling on the door to get it open - like foot on the wall, two hands on the door handle, and putting my back into it. It was stuck around the whole perimeter of the door. We thought we would have to call someone to help push from the outside. In the end the weatherstrip ripped into shreds because of this, so we just pulled the rest down and trashed it.
It's a good product, but make sure it doesn't stick to both surfaces as a test before sealing up your whole door.
Perhaps thickness is the major issue for us, we did have to press the door closed as the tape was just slightly too thick for the gap.

Just installed this 2 minutes ago. It is probably the worst product I have ever bought. IT DOESN'T STICK! Not even on a CLEAN, DRY and POROUS surface! Read morePublished 17 days ago by N. Citarella
It didn't stick good on my doors; I really got the wrong item. If it had been used properly, I'm sure it would have been all right.Published 27 days ago by Linda Nail
It is very soft material and the sticky side is not strong enough to stay.Published 28 days ago by mia hong
the foam is good, but the adhesive leaves a lot to be desired. It barely sticks at all.Published 29 days ago by Mick Swagger
Bought it to seal the gap on my new cloth cabinet doors. It works perfectly and the white color match my cabinet color.Published 2 months ago by j4n3mutz
