Bought this knife with minimal expectations due to price. I have used this knife camping and during survival training and it has surpassed many more expensive knives that I have purchased. It has been used for shelter building, skinning, chopping up kindling and small firewood. Sheath could be better, fitting could be better. But all round, it is a good, solid, dependable knife. It has replaced my expensive name brand which this is a copy of. This one for hard work, the other to put in my collection.

The pattern for this knife is the Cold Steel Trail Master which I believe clocks in these days at about $150 to your door. This knife was $30 to my door. If it is the same steel as the M-tech Hard Use Bowie that Cheaper than Dirt sells for approx $15 then it's going to be a winner. Check out Knife Tests dot com on the net. That knife in their tests fares better than many knives they tested costing 10 and 20 times as much. The coating on this knife is not as good looking as the Hard Use Bowie in my opinion but the kraton like handle on this knife is much better than the one on the Hard Use knife. The edge is sharper on this knife than the Hard Use knife as well. The sheaths are about the same. Have not had this one out in the woods yet nor have I had the Hard Use Bowie out in the woods. Bought that knife to throw in the stowage bin of my SUV for general purposes. May swape it out for this one. This knife would be a great inexpensive gift for your buddies that can appreciate this sort of thing. It's a nice camp tool like a good folding shovel, flashlight or hatchet.

An excellent knife for the money!! An exact copy of the Cold Steel Trail Master Bowie!-If you don't mind buying a Stolen design-and don't expect to get SK5 carbon steel- or the sharpness of the Cold Steel-you will get a tough bang around knife for one tenth of the cost of the Cold Steel knife!!!!!! I sharpened mine and threw it in the truck and it has worked GREAT for me!!

For anyone competing or just throwing knives for fun and accuracy, I've found the M-Tech Bowie to be one of the few reasonably priced fixed blade knives that work very well, especially if thrown by the handle, which is the way I learned and then later I taught to some Vietnam era Marines. It's actually been more durable than the Marine Corps issued K-Bar which had a tendency to bend at the handle, and then when straightened once too often would break.
