I wasn't sure I would.... after meeting her in the first book of this series (Forgotten Honeymoon). Back then Brenda was sort of wishy-washy. She was involved with a man, who she found out later was married. She broke things off with him imediately, only to return to him after he gave her some bullcrap story about being legally separated. Then after his wife called to set her straight, she shaves her head bald the night before Kelly's wedding, all because Stphan had always admired her beautiful long blonde hair. As if that was going to keep him away for good. When all it really did, was to make her look even more ridiculous.
Don't get me wrong, Brenda was a very good caring person, who would do anything for those she loved. She was always there when her best friend Kelly needed her the most, but her relationships with the men she dated was so messed up.
A few days after kicking Stephan to the curb once again, she meets a man in the park who was very kind to her. Not the kind of man she usually fell for, but he seemed really sweet. A few days after that Marius comes into the bank where she works, and her co-worker is practically drooling all over herself over just the site of him. Her co-worker points out that he must have a thing for her, since he always goes to her window. Brenda blows her off, but then when that exact thing happens time and time again, she rethinks the whole situation. Then she hears about his problems with his visa, and reaches out to help him from being deported.
Brenda is still a little emotionally mixed up in this story, but it's only because she wants the best for Marius. Marius on the other hand....is a woman's every dream come true. He's always so calm and collected. He was always so patient, caring, and he tries his best to please those around him. He has good family values....but most of all ...he's always a gentleman.
I loved Kelly's family, but I though Marius' mother was a bit too uppity for my tastes. And that gawd aweful Francesca....what a total witch!
But it was the end of the story that had me sniffling like a baby. So, so sweet and nothing like I expected. It was so much more!
If you love a good, clean romance story with a lot of heart....you'll love this story.
The end result was an enjoyable escape of reality. I enjoy Beverly's prose and descriptions particularly this one stood out for me : "He was very methodical, and there was an economy to his movements." I look forward to her other works.
