From the Inside Flap

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UNABLE TO BREATHE, I STOPPED THE CAR COMPLETELY.
Then the wave of nausea hit. I put the car into park and bolted out the door, diving to my hands and knees, dry heaving. Nothing came out, but my stomach didn't care.
"Try to relax,Theodora. You're fighting it." I felt a strong, soothing hand on my back.
Mack might as well have been stroking my breasts or inner thighs or kissing my lips. His touch felt intimate, tender and sensual.
Okay. Feeling better now. In fact, I felt the urge to jump to my feet and kiss him like a long-lost lover I missed with all my heart.
I shook my head from side to side, gathering up my crumbling wits. Oh look. I'm in the doggy position on the ground with my tongue hanging out. Nice.
I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand, and Mack gripped my arm to help me to my feet.
This is it, I realized. I was going to turn around and look him straight in the eyes. I already knew how beautiful he was, but the last time we'd locked eyes, it changed me.
What would you think if a sexy and enigmatic man claimed that you’ve been lovers for thousands of years?
I’m not usually a fan of the paranormal genre, but there are certain authors that just do it so well, I can’t resist. Mimi Jean Pamfiloff is one of those writers. She can take evil spirits, monsters wearing human clothes and curses that survive death, and weave them into something so fantastic that I find myself believing that everything I read is possible. Throw in some dominant, sexy men and strong no-nonsense women, and you’ve got a story that will make you stay up all night just to finish it.
Mack was one of those books.
Readers of the first three books in the King trilogy will recognize him as King’s pilot and, as we found out towards the end of that saga, King’s twin brother. But Mack has a story of his own, and here we find out what happened to him once Mia made him run after King’s death eons ago. We find out his tale of love and loss and murder that spans centuries. We again get to see the wickedness that is The Ten Club, a group of the most wealthy and powerful men and women on earth that personify evil. And as the reader, we get to experience the joy, the snark and the heartbreak along with Mack and Teddi, the woman he’s loved throughout time.
My review of this book feels woefully short because I don’t know what to say without giving away any of the story, and Ms. Pamfiloff does a much better job of telling it than I could.
I will point out, however, that once I finished the book, I was thrilled to keep reading the authors note and find that these four books of the “trilogy” were not the end, and in the next story, we get to find out more about The Ten Club, in addition to getting more of Mack and King. I could not be more excited, because this world that has been created is simply too fascinating for me to want to leave just yet!
Even though this is a great stand alone book, I felt quite a bit of satisfaction having already read the King Series.
I've had questions about Mack since day one of meeting King for the first time, and finally they were answered! (Well, most of them... wait... more like some of them... *shakes fist at Mimi*)
I really loved this story and couldn't wait to phone my mum and tell her it was finally out so she could get a copy as well!
Well done, once again Mimi, I can hardly wait for the next one!
So of course I knew I wouldn't be disappointed with this book...after all, it's one of Mimi's and you all know I'm a HUGE fan of her work! The woman is just AMAZING!!!
However; this book, while it had all that I love in Mimi's work (humor, hot sex, romance and twists everywhere!); I found that the most compelling part is truly seeing how love drives us to do things in life...both good and bad.
This is Mack's story of pain, torture, but also of LOVE! Not only did we find out who the lucky woman who owns his heart was; but the love and bond he shares with King is beyond amazing as well. They both do unimaginable things for one another, "in the name of love"...even though they either hurt themselves or others in the process. This book is simply brilliant; it was extremely entertaining (I couldn't put it down all day!), yet, as usual, it has a deeper meaning. That's not something every book will give you!
The King is back only this time it's not his story that's told, it's Mack's. Mack has lived a very long time and had killed a lot of people he has betrayed numerous others and he's tired of it. He's tired of it all but his curse is to live forever until he discovered a way out it. If he can only make her believe that they've met numerous times before and if he can only get her to believe him. His only way out of the cursed cycle is for her to kill him.
Theodora thought that Mack was just another patient that she needed to help but after just one look at him she knew that he wasn't. Teddi had lived her whole life feeling nothing. She would laugh when she knew that she was supposed to but she had never felt real joy or happiness. She would remorse when she know that she should but she had never real sadness. She thought that she was broken that there was something truly wrong with her. But it only took one look at Mack and she felt rage at the people that she thought were out to hurt him. She felt pain from hearing his story. She felt love for a man that she had only known a few days. He's obviously insane though because there is no way that the things that's he's telling her are true and there is no way that she's going to kill him.
I was so excited when I found out that Mack got his own story but this isn't the end for him and unfortunately not for King either because while we thought that he had finally found his happily ever after, things don't always go as planned.
This was book four in the King Trilogy. It's a good thing that Mimi Jean is an amazing writer because her math obviously sucks. Trilogy apparently no longer means three. It now means five since in true Mimi form, this book ends on a major cliffhanger!
Stay turned for book five to be released this fall. It can't get here soon enough! I received an ARC from Mimi Jean herself in return for an honest review.
Exciting, suspenseful book. Mimi Jean consistently gives the reader a book that makes you sad when you read the last word of the novel. This is the story of Mack, the brother of King from the "King Trilogy." I recommend that if the reader hasn't read the "King" series that they start with them first. The characters are complex as is the story. It was hard to put down, so hard that I didn't until the whole book was read. I highly recommend this book but be prepared to dedicate a block of time to read its entirety. You will not retreat it.
