The viewing cone is only about 15 degrees. See the attached image. I never had any trouble reading the Radio Shack clock this replaced. The one from the Shack was great – easy to read and kept excellent time. But after 10, 15, or maybe 20 years, it just stopped one day. Rats!
Otherwise, this Marathon clock set up quickly and synchronized the time much sooner than I expected. I bought the wood grain looking clock. Yeah, it's just plastic, but at a distance it looks fine. I wasn't expecting actual wood.
But I was expecting to be able to read it while it hung on my wall. Bleeh!

Be patient, though. You may not get a signal right away. I guess it depends on what time of day you press the "wave" button. From what I've read, the signal for atomic clocks gets stronger at night, so I'd recommend pressing the button late in the evening or close to midnight.
The first time I tried to sync, I was on the road and I didn't receive a signal. When I went home that night, however, I pressed the button again around 10 p.m., and it synced up within a few seconds.
PROS
-The numbers are very large and easy to read
-Easy set up
-Has the day of week, month, day of month and year as well as the temperature and seconds
-Small footprint despite large numbers
-Comes with 2 AA (general purpose) batteries
CONS
-No night light
-It can be difficult to see the numbers if you're viewing at a wide angle (probably more than 45 degrees)
I did a lot of research before settling on this clock, and I think I made the right choice. It's only been a few days since my purchase (Sept. 28, 2017), but so far, so good. If I have problems, I'll come back and report them. So, if you're reading this in the future and there's no update, rest assured that all is well with the clock … or I'm dead.
Next day however, the days were wrong so I remove the battery and reset it. It synced this time much later near midnight as it missed the broadcast of the signal. Finally, I decided to setup the year and date and put the sync button and this time it took it.
Well worth spending a little over $25 to $30 for it. I got so tires of my clocks being off by 5 to 8 mins. I highly recommend getting this model if you are in search for an atomic wall clock that is well built and made, tells accurate time by the seconds (atomic), and runs on two AA batteries.
I settled on this larger Marathon Clock. Digital and the Atomic Self-Setting feature. Left it on over-night and this morning it shows a strong signal, i'm on the beach in North Carolina, very far from Colorado and it shows a strong signal. The digital are large, like the length of my fore finger and i'm able to see these from across the room at 15 feet and while in the next room at 20 some feet which is as far as i can go inside. at that distance the numbers on the side for data and temperature are not readable by me but the large time is so clear.
I had no problems setting clock up, pressing buttons and getting the time, zone and other features set. Oh there's a manual but i have't opened it yet. No problem as clock was easy to set up. I did read the one sheet that says to leave on overnight and it will pickup signals better. So i waited and it did and the radio signal indicator is fully 3 bars and it even now knows it is on DST and OK.
I think i also like the addition of having the month/day and day-of-week shown. I usually know those but sometimes I do have moments and it helps.
One thing I want to mention, which i did not consider at time of purchase, but is not really a problem for me, is this particular model does not have a an auto night light, in the dark you can't see it. But i usually don't look at the time while i'm sleeping and anyway i do have Alexa I can ask for the time in the dark so it's not all that bad. But I did just want to note the auto night-lite feature is available on some of this manufacturers' other clocks if that is something you need.
This unit was trivial to set up, pick up the WWV signal and let it set itself.
The one minor quibble is that it would be nice if it were backlit using an LED and slightly larger capacity batteries to allow variable backlighting for easy view in darkness. And that is the only reason it only got 4 stars for readability--nighttime or dim light. The display itself is nice and large and readable from notable distances.
