I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SMOKING TUBE
I used this last night to cold smoke some cheese. The directions said to light it with a blow torch, which I just happened to not have, but I was able to stuff a paper towel into the open end and use that to create a steady flame source. Like the directions said, it took about ten minutes to really get the fire rolling. I let it do its thing while I was cutting my cheese into smoke-sized blocks. By the time I got outside to put the cheese on the grill, the flame had already put itself out and it was gently smoking.
At first I thought the smoke was a little underdone, but once I closed the lid on my grill, I could quickly see that it produced a ton of smoke. It was absolutely perfect.
There was still a good supply of smoke when I was done just past the two-hour mark. I think it burned for another 45-60 minutes, but I wasn't paying close attention.
This morning I went outside to check the aftermath. I wanted to clean up any mess if necessary. I assumed there would be some mess leftover since this didn't produce a hot fire like my pellet smoker does. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was just a light white powdery dust inside. I took it off the grill and waved it over my lawn. It looks like I shook some talcum on the grass.
I have to wait two weeks to sample my smoked cheese. I've smoked cheese before on my Traeger at 180 degrees and it was a pain in the neck to keep the cheese from melting. This was way simpler. I expect the taste to be pretty similar, but time will tell.

Overall, it doesn't put out as much smoke as I was expecting. Perhaps too high of expectations. It does burn for 4-6 hours. I found out this weekend that if I wait until the tube is burnt to about an inch from the end that I can add more pellets and it will simply start burning back toward the front without having to re-light it.
It makes a total mess of your grill if you move it during a cook. The ash goes everywhere so try to find a spot where it can stay for the duration. Also do not put it close to the temperature sensors of an electric/pellet.
