This and the 390 are great radios, however the tyt CPS is horrible. To those having difficulties programming the radio with the tyt CPS I would highly recommend using the retevis rt3s CPS instead. The 380/390 and the retevis rt3s are the same radios just pretty much re-branded. The audio is crisp and clear on both the analog and digital modes.

While several of the photos here on Amazon give you an IMPRESSION that the price is for TWO (a pair of) radios, look closely. It’s just the front and back. Despite this sneaky advertising trick, it’s a good price for a basic DMR HT. Why there is a one photo that looks like FOUR I have no idea.

Programming code plug software is not very good. Initial glance is that it cannot import any common radio/code plug files. So there’s that- and the install has a lot of Chinese characters- that for the US customer may give the idea of bad or corrupt file. The mini CD (who still uses CDROM/DVD DRIVE?) was not readable. I ended up downloading software from Radiottyweb site. So, decent radio; really “sketchy” packaging and setup.

First, good luck finding the right software on their page. It's just a massive dump of links you'll need to sort through. Once you find the right CPS, it was designed to work (I'm fairly sure) on Win 3.11 for Workgroups. The tab order on the fields is completely random so be prepared to go between mouse and keyboard a lot.

Have all your channels loaded and contacts entered? Awesome! Click "Program" and behold as it crashes. Forgot to mention the drivers aren't correct so you'll need to google around and find the right drivers.

Got that done? Awesome. Maybe this time we read the radio first and then edit the stock config. Oh wait, nevermind. The CPS crashes when you do that.

Currently searching to see if I can get something more reliable like OpenGD77 flashed so this is more than a paperweight but I have a strong feeling this junk is headed back to the vendor.

Another amateur radio operator and I made a simplex QSO over 4 miles on 145.600MHz with M17 open-source digital voice mode using one of these and an MD-UV390 (with exact same mod) and external antennas, of course.

Really wanted the radio to work but It would not work on my computer. After purchasing a Retevis RT3S I belvie the issue that MANY people are having is with windows security system.

If you download the driver and it will not read the radio no matter what you do. Turn off Core Isolation AT YOUR OWN RISK and give it another try. Core Isolation is there to help keep malware from getting into your computer, but if you aren't clicking on random links with your computer you SHOULD be fine. You may have to remove all files that were originally downloaded and re-download them for it to work but I think this solved my issue. Hope that it lasts. Also, this radio is the same exact thing as a Retevis RT3S so don't be afraid to get either.

This was a great radio and came packaged well. Probably will buy another one in the future.
