Most people wouldn't expect a pair of $20 headphones that claim to be noise Isolating and made for working out to have good sound or quality but in the case of this pair of headphones, it does that and much more. Not only do you get an additional case for the headphones, but also 6 sets of interchangeable eartips so you can get the best fit (I found that the ones that came on the earphones worked the best for me).
The noise-isolating feature: When I first put them on, I couldn't believe how well they isolated sound. I couldn't hear any backround noises (cars, microwave, etc.) and when I turned on my music, I couldn't hear a person talking right in front of me.
The fit: When I tried working out and running with them, I didn't have any trouble. They stayed snuggly in my ear the whole time and I could hear the music clearly the whole time. The "memory wire" also works great. It took me about 10 seconds to figure out how to fit it to my ear and then I was good.
The sound quality: Finally, the thing everyone wants to know about. Does the low price of these headphones take away sound quality? The answer to this is definitely no. I'm not a headphone/sound enthusiast but I can still tell that these have good sound. When compared to the old Apple ear pods, these sound amazing. If I could say anything about the way these sound, it would be that the base is very prominent (but not overpowered, so you can still listen to classical-type music).
A few things I wanted to know before I bought this:
-Does the clear color get dirty/rusty? No, atleast they haven't yet in the month that I've been using them (and they look pretty in general as a color)
-How long is the cord? About 4 1/2"--I find that it's a bit too long when you run, but you can easily fix this by either stuffing the excess cord into your pocket or using the handy clip of them to hold extra cord.
-Do they get tangled easily? No! These are the first headphones I've had that don't. It's probably because the cord is a bit stiffer than most
Thanks for taking the time to read this review. I hope it helped and answered any questions you had. Look at the pictures I took for more help--I put the headphones next to a sharpie marker for comparison in size.
They're great for car travel and walking around and using for either your phone or to listen to music or podcasts. I will say this though, the microphone is sensitive. So if you are at an airport and there is an overhead speaker page, the other person at the other end of the phone will hear that very loud and won't be able to hear you. There are some cases, where there's a lot of background noise, where your handset does work best. I use these also a lot while I'm driving.
As far as the headphones go for used with music and, or, podcasts, these are fantastic. No, they are not doing, triple or quad driver $1,000 headphones. They are what they are. But they fit very comfortably, and they produce very good sound for the price. The selection of ear cuffs will ensure that probably almost anybody can get a very good, near airtight fit.
And, as I mentioned before, I even wear these at night. They are comfortable enough to wear at night while you're sleeping and they stay on the whole night through. Would I buy this again? Absolutely. Like I said, I bought about 3 pair of these are ready. And, if you destroy him, it's less than $20 to replace. You can't beat that. These are by far my favorite value earbud headphones, with microphone.
They have been by favorite pair ever.
I haven't had any problems with them shorting out, but even more important are the features.
First, the sound is fantastic for the price. In fact, my perception is that they're every bit as good as the Shure and Beats I owned. The reason I say "perception" is that I didn't compare them side by side. Maybe they wouldn't stack up side by side, but I'm every bit as pleased with the sound quality as I was with those more expensive brands.
Second, I was able to find a pair of the included buds that fit my ear perfectly. This creates a very effective noise cancelling effect since they essentially act as ear plugs. I use them when mowing the lawn or using the snow blower and they work great.
Third, the wire that fits around your ear is perfect for wearing them around town. If I go to the store or need to talk to someone I can just pop the ear bud out but leave it hanging in place on my ear, then pop it back in when I'm done. It seems simple but keeps cord management very easy.
Fourth, I really like the volume slider. It allows you to know positionally how loud the volume will be. Sometimes when I plug my headphones into my phone the volume will be accidentally super loud. With the slider I can put it in the lowest position, plug in my phones, and then slide it up to ensure I don't get this unpleasant blast.
Fifth, they work with my android phone. I'm not sure they work as intended because I know sometimes headphones will work differently across brands, but it will allow me to adjust volume (as mentioned) and the button allows me to answer/terminate calls and start/stop music. I suppose it would be nice to have the option to skip to the next song but it doesn't really bother me.
Sixth, they look cool.
My wife just broke my current pair of these. She tripped over them and tore out one of the cords. The nice thing is they're so cheap I don't even really care. The fact that I could buy four or more pairs of these for one of the expensive brand makes this an easy purchase. I doubt I'll ever switch to another brand because there's simply no reason to.
One caveat to this review. I haven't used them exercising so I can't vouch for how they perform or stay in your ear. Mowing the lawn is a rough equivalent in that I would sweat the same amount as when exercising but it wouldn't match the jarring nature of jogging. However, because the fit of the buds is so good for me, I don't think exercising would cause a problem.
