Review

MEET ME AT THE NET is the story of every steelheader's story; it's like Ed Novak wrote this book about me and my friends and our time on the water. Steelhead Alley draws millions of anglers every year, and this is the first book to profile the incredible fishery here. I didn't want to put it down, and when I reached the end of the book I wished there was more. Anyone who comes here and fishes will go home with a story that's already told in this book. --Craig Lewis, Erie Outfitters, Sheffield Lake, Ohio

Ed Novak introduces MEET ME AT THE NET with a curious caveat, almost an apology that his entertaining and eye-opening book about steelheading isn't set in the heart of native steelhead country, i.e, Canada and the Pacific Northwest. There is no need to apologize for this energetic, well-written look at steelhead fishing as it should be ... streams choked with fish and their fishers, and society and the environment entertaining each other as a result of a vibrant and forward-looking, multi-state hatchery program. I especially appreciate his keen understanding and use of human nature in vignette after vignette of life and the human spirit on, in, over - and occasionally under - the stream. From the perspective of the Pacific Northwest, where the steelhead remains enigmatic across much of its native waters, it's nice to know places like Steelhead Alley in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York are still possible ... and that the driving forces of human personalities that go down to the stream to break enough ice to cast a fly are, after all, pretty universal no matter what the geography. --Bill Monroe, Outdoor Writer, The Oregonian
