Instead of the uniform surface most wrist rests have, this one has a texture to it. It feels like the raised "nubs" give a little more, so it cushions your wrists against the force of laying your hands on the keyboard. It is somehow very soft while providing firm support. It doesn't cut off the blood flow in my wrists like some others I have used, and it is definitely superior to hard plastic. The keyboards I tried which worked best were the ones which are low profile and flat from bottom to top. Those kept my hands straight with no upward angle. I thought the bottom was sticky from the pictures, but it isn't. It is a non-slip material which keeps the pad from moving. Picking it up and shifting it around is easy.
