Cutthroat billionaire businessman and womanizer Roen Doran is a coldhearted bastard who cares about nothing and no one except his shipping company. So when one of his ships is lost to sea coincidentally close to the island his deceased father has just left him he immediately goes to investigate.
While working on her dissertation for her sociology PhD, Liv Stratton is left drifting and close to dying after the ship she was on went down during a storm. But a lifeline has appeared in the form of a magnificent man and a mysterious island.
Forced onto the island of El Corazón, Liv and Roen must learn to trust each other if they hope to survive and get off this strange isle where a tribe of barbaric self-proclaimed MER-men only reside and its coasts are guarded by unnerving sea creatures that loosely resemble creepy mermaids. Will Roen care enough for Liv to risk helping her or will he leave her to be claimed as these men’s property?
This book was gripping. It had me on pins and needles and having some sort of pulmonary embolism. I loved slowly learning about this very unique and interesting island and its inhabitants. It completely transported me to another world and made my reality fade away.
I loved Roen. His cold as ice heart turn to mush when it came to defending Liv. It was heart breaking to learn about his childhood. I understood how he grew up to be such a ruthless man. But when I came down to protecting Liv, even from himself I couldn’t help but fall for him.
I really liked Liv. I loved that she was a smart woman and appreciated that she didn’t let anyone push her around and didn’t cower. I respected her strength just as Roen did. She was a perfect match for him.
“I’m the only one who’s ever been brave enough to care about you.”
And in between all the excitement I enjoyed how she chiselled away the layers of ice surrounding Roen’s heart and their connection became so much more than two people trying to survive.
“This thing with Roen... felt intense and magnetic and, well, deeply carnal. It was like Roen had reached inside her and touched a part of her soul she hadn’t even know existed.”
This is the kind of book I wanted to read in one sitting. I adore Mimi’s love for cliff-hangers, man-skirts, snark and the slow sensual build up between the main characters. I learned a lot about this new world, but not all questions were answered and I can’t wait to read the next part.
Mermen is book 1 in the Mermen trilogy that cannot be read as a standalone. It’s strongly advised to read these books in order. It’s written from both points of view, and has a cliffhanger.
And yes, the title says "Mermen" but don't be fooled, there are no mermen in the sense of fantasy "fish-men" in this book. However, I must be honest and add that the island that the heroine "stumbles across" after being shipwrecked, is inhabited by men whose ancestors were mermen, so there's that at least.
I have purchased the next book and as someone who doesn't usually quit, I will probably be reading it but won't be in a big rush to do so. Here's hoping that when I do read it, I will change my mind about this series.
Written from a dual POV, ends on a cliffhanger.
You meet Roen Doran who is basically a cold hearted SOB who cares about nothing short of making money and expending his empire. <-His quote. Then there's Olivia Stratton who is on fishing boat trying to finish her dissertation for school that actually capsizes. Yeah then it's gets to that wonderfully, delicious, addictive, hair-pulling, that "why, why, why must do this me" part.
Then the end comes and all you see is that evil genius Mimi who happens to know some bat s*** crazy gods that let her ride off into the sunset on the back of a vampire unicorn named Minky. Trust me Kinky is real and if u do see her make sure u call Roberto he'll come get her.
Sorry where was I..... oh yes awesome book. Now excuse me must read book 2 Mermadmen.

It turns out that mermen are built, sexy as hell and have the sexual prowess of a god! Now I have to tell you that there is zero sex in this book but my god, Mimi has your anticipation of it on s knife edge!
This was a brilliant and original story, written perfectly...and Roen (and the island), make my knees go weak!!
Liv and Roen find themselves on an island inhabited by mermen and this book is the unraveling of the backstory....I wont go into more detail as it will ruin the many surprises this book holds....but I will leave you with this quote :
'Suddenly there was just her and him and that erotic ache deep inside, pulsing and throbbing'......
Roen's the millionaire shipping tycoon who nobody loves. After one of his ship's goes missing he takes to the high sea's. He's drawn to an mysterious island and it's there he finds a shipwrecked Liv.
This island holds the lives of mankind and Roen is to be the leader of a tribe of mermnen.
Liv is attracted to Roen but she fights the mating urge because she thinks everyone on the island are barmy....
I got a bit bored after this especially when she got home and 2 months later or was it three Roen turns up.....
Anyway it was a freebie so I'm happy about thgthgat lol
After being shipwrecked and ending up on an island full of gorgeous, but scary dangerous men, she finds out that they think the island is alive and that they are merman. Believing them to be crazy she tries her hardest to escape. The gorgeous billionaire Roen, who's helicopter crashes and lands him on the same dangerous island, tries to help her escape. But will the island let them leave?? And will Liv even want to if she can't convince Roen to go with her??
Watch out for the cliff-hanger, though book 2 is already available :)
So many times i thought i had guessed what was going to happen but nope...i was wrong. I absolutely love this first installment! The charaters are really easy to like...or hate...and very believable. The description of the island and its race is breathtaking and of course...in true mini style...it ends on a cliffhanger. Fantastic read...
The book itself is wonderful, blooming cliff hangers though Agghhhh. The only thing it needs is a bit of cimil and minky ;) keep writing the way you do mimi you are awesome
