Top Customer Reviews
This reformer is built like a tank. It is evenly balanced and very stable, which was the big requirement from my wife. According to her and her instructors, the lesser expensive models are not very stable and tend to move/shift while doing your exercises. We've had this reformer for over a year now and my wife uses it almost everyday. The quality is great and maintenance is pretty easy. We had to swap out one of the springs and that was very easy to do.
The reformer has wheels on it so it is pretty easy to lift on one end and move it around. However, if you need to lift the whole thing off the ground (i.e. to move it upstairs, for example) make sure you have someone there to help you.
The only complaint I have is that I've come to the conclusion that the accessories are in general outrageously priced. I've ended up making some of the accessories myself for a fraction of the price that Stott was charging.
Update: we've now had this reformer for 2 years and my wife uses it pretty much everyday. I too have started using the reformer in lieu of some of my weight exercises. The springs generate enough resistance that I can do some of my arm and shoulder exercises using the reformer. The reformer itself is in great condition and has required no maintenance. The original springs are still good, though I swap them out every now and then to adjust the level of resistance. While it is easy to swap out springs, it's not something you want to do often. Find a combination of springs that gives you adequate resistance and change it only when the resistance is no longer sufficient. The only piece of the equipment that shows any sign of wear and tear are the ropes; specifically, the section of the ropes that is in contact with the pulleys. I've checked out the ropes closely and this is purely a cosmetic issue. I expect the ropes to last for quite some time.
Update2: we're 3 years in and finally had an "event." The reformer has a plastic guide under the carriage that supports the springs when they are not engaged so that they don't droop down and hit the floor. This guide is attached to the carriage with a screw on each end. According to my wife, when you're done using the reformer, you're supposed to make sure all the springs are re-engaged so that their weight is not being supported by this plastic guide. Well, she ignored her own advice and after a while the guide broke on one end. So there is definitely user error in play. That said, I inspected the guide afterwards and it's a really poorly designed and cheap solution for a reformer of this caliber. It's essentially an injection molded hollow plastic that is not very strong for the amount of weight that it needs to be able to support. My wife called the company and got a new piece in the mail which took me just under 3 minutes to replace. The reformer was useable during the entire time that the guide was broken...we just had to deal with the annoyance of the springs not in used being dragged on the floor.
Be advised that this is going to arrive in a very heavy box. It's a two person carry. I had read other reviews stating that it was only a "threshhold" delivery so I was prepared in advance to beg the delivery guys and give them a tip for doing extra and carrying it down to my lower level (I live by myself).
