How did you come up with the idea for this product?
Our co-founder, Takehiro, was inspired to create MESH while hacking an alarm clock. "If only there was an easy way to make this gadget and everything in my home a little smarter," he thought. This is the moment MESH was born.
What makes your product special?
MESH is one of the simplest ways to use the Internet of Things in your everyday life. Instead of buying ten smart gadgets, you can design and build your own electronic gadgets with MESH blocks. Anyone can program electronic projects in our visual coding app which replaces soldering and programming. With just a tap, you can integrate MESH blocks with hundreds of gadgets and apps via Bluetooth (BLE) and IFTTT.
What has been the best part of your startup experience?
We love to see people’s wildest smart gadget ideas come to life with MESH. These ideas motivate and inspire us to keep finding new ways to make it easier for everyone to create electronics projects that are smart and personalized.

Also the device is battery powered and requires being charged: this isn't useful in cases where you have an application you want to run all the time. Like, I wanted it to monitor the temperature in my apartment and tell me when the temp drops so I can see to the furnace, which needs its boiler filled from time to time. (This was easy to set up: just set temperature ranges on the Mesh trigger and have it play a sound on my phone when it goes out of the temperature range.) This won't happen every day so the device will sit there doing nothing often, but I have to recharge its battery regularly. It ends up being more work to keep the Mesh trigger charged and connected to my device than to just walk to the basement and check the furnace daily.
Overall I'd say the Mesh tags are an interesting concept, but that they're more toys than really useful devices at this point. Great for a smart kid to play with several and figure out nifty things to do with them, but useless for real world applications.
The only thing I wish is the bluetooth range was longer. Right now the tablet/phone has to have a pretty clear line of sight for it to connect consistently.
