Product Overview
METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE takes the renowned METAL GEAR franchise into exciting new territory by focusing on delivering an all-new action experience unlike anything that has come before. Combining world-class development teams at Kojima Productions and PlatinumGames, METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE brings two of the world's most respected teams together with a common goal of providing players with a fresh synergetic experience that combines the best elements of pure action and epic storytelling, all within the expansive MG universe. The game introduces Raiden as the central character; a child soldier transformed into a half-man, half-machine cyborg ninja, equipped with a high-frequency katana blade and a soul fueled by revenge.
In the near future, cyborg technology has become commonplace throughout society. Three years have passed since the collapse of the Patriots system that had been secretly controlling the global power balance from the shadows. However, peace remains elusive. The dissemination of cybernetic technology has triggered instability and conflict as those who control the trade gain increasing power. Furthermore, large 'Private Military Companies', or PMC's, that had been supported and controlled by the Patriots have collapsed, spawning countless rogue entities with origins to larger criminal organizations. These renegade PMCs employing cyborg technology have become increasingly more disruptive shifting policy and power at will. As a member of the peace-keeping PMC 'Maverick Security', Raiden lives by the mantra of protecting and saving lives. But as the world plunges further into asymmetric warfare, the only path that leads him forward is rooted in resolving his past, and carving through anything that stands in his way.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2015Platform: PC DownloadEdition: StandardVerified PurchaseType of game: Action/stealth hybrid with political overtones.
What I played: Played through all of the game's seven campaign levels in 13 hours and 34 minutes. Tired some unlockable VR Missions.
The good:
"The tight symbiosis between precision cutting and continued survival--harvesting enemy anatomy as a way to instantly refresh health--kept combat from feeling repetitive. I kept playing just to see how crazy the next big set piece would be."
A decent slash em up/beat em up.
Bad:
The last big battle trots out so many bad boss fight cliches that you'll feel like you're the butt of a giant joke. Save your items, if you reach the end without the appropriate set of items, be ready to die many times (you may run the risk of not being able to finish the game)
This game should have come earlier, mutual release as the consoles.
The PC version could have even more enhanced graphics vs the console version.
No multiplayer.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2014Platform: PC DownloadEdition: StandardVerified PurchaseLove Metal Gear Solid(MGS) series since the first PlayStation. While stealth has always being the focus of MGS series, I always drool over the cool cut scenes with cloaked ninja that wields katanta. Meta Gear Rising: Revengeance is the dream come true, in the game you got to control a kick ass cyborg that wield blades. This is a great action game, with over the top cut scenes and smooth combat system. That being said, the combat system take time to get use to with little in game help (if you do not do the VR mission). Also and story is on the shorter side (5-8 hours). But overall I love the game. Definitely deserves the 5 star.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2014Platform: PC DownloadEdition: StandardVerified PurchaseThis game refuses to run full screen in any display mode. Had I checked the forums before I bought this I would have known tons of people are having this issue and nothing has been done to fix it since it was released. I hate playing games that are not full screen so this craptacular game is useless to me. Use at your own risk especially if you use HDMI or DVI. The little time I tried to play it in window mode it wasn't so great anyway. Controlling the camera is a major struggle and there is too much QTE. Mashing whatever button the game tells me to repeatedly whenever the game tells me to instead of actually controlling a character is not my idea of fun.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2014Platform: PC DownloadEdition: StandardVerified PurchaseIt's very hard to play because very bad camera ... keep moving to the where I don't want to. Not fun at all
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2014Platform: PC DownloadEdition: StandardVerified PurchaseI really wanted to like this game but the controls weren't the best and while there was a couple good characters they weren't given their full potential i found myself skipping most conversations because they were so bad. I made myself finish it though
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2014Platform: PC DownloadEdition: StandardVerified PurchaseI've been a massive fan of the Metal Gear series since 1998's Metal Gear Solid and had been following the development of MGR with much interest. There was a time when it seemed that the game would never come out, so when it was announced that Platinum Games was taking over the development of MGR I thought it was the right move to make on Konami's part. The idea that the developers of Vanquish and the amazing Bayonetta were to develop a pure action game set in the Metal Gear universe had me giddy with excitement, and now it's finally here on my favorite gaming platform.
Too bad I can barely play it.
Metal Gear Rising seems to suffer from the "Shoddy Port Syndrome" that affects numerous console port-to-PC releases. My PC is connected to a 47" HDTV Panasonic Plasma. MGR can't display full screen through HDMI. It'll either crash outright or be locked at 24 FPS. That's right... a game that runs at around 60 FPS on consoles that hail from a time where smart phones with touch screens where available only in science fiction, will be stuck at a frame rate that make GIF images look smooth. From what I've learned on many different forums, this only happens through HDMI and HDTV's.
There is the option of running the game in windowed mode and it definitely increases the frame rate if you do so, but there are few things that I loath more than screen borders on my games. I can use the Windowed Borderless Gaming program to eliminate said borders, but then it introduces overscan to the point the I can barely see when a Steam Achievement is unlocked. Even after all that, I know that there is a good game buried in all these bugs. There are times when I can see what the game would be if it was well made, but when I check the resources used on my system and see that it's using less than 50% of my GPU or less than 12% of my i5k CPU, it just screams "bad port". Too bad.
Maybe a patch will be released soon that does away with all these bugs and if it happens I'll update this review, but until then I can't recommend this version of the game to anyone in good conscience
Edit
It's a bit of a pain to get running properly but it's still a great, ludicrous game.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2014Platform: PC DownloadEdition: StandardVerified PurchaseI just bought this game for PC and I gotta say its pretty wild, very fast. If you love hack and slash then you will love this. I haven't gotten too into the story just yet but from what I have play so far this is a pretty legit game for 29.99. Also I do not use my key board, I use my ps3 controller and it makes the game play for me personally that much better. So if you have an xbox controller of ps3 I would give it a try. Overall from what I have played I would give this game a solid 5 out of 5
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2014Platform: PC DownloadEdition: StandardVerified PurchaseDue to all the negative reviews this game has already (that are very much pointless) I feel the need to give it a good review
I preordered, used the key in steam two days early and downloaded, and then when 10am came, I was able to play. Bam, easy.
The actual game, is extremely fun and runs extremely smooth. The graphics are crisp, and clean and still does keep its Metal Gear Feeling. The controls are very simple and allow you to do some very complex things. Did I mention that its actually kind of funny too? I would recommend to everyone.
