Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan has brought a new edge to the Cold War, and in 1984, a one-eyed man with a prosthetic arm appears in the country. Those who know him call him Snake; the legendary mercenary who was once swept from the stage of history and left in a coma by American private intelligence network Cipher. Snake is accompanied by Ocelot, an old friend who saved him from attack when he finally awoke.

Now, Snake's former partner Kazuhira Miller is being held by the Soviet forces in Afghanistan. Snake must undertake a solo mission to rescue Miller and prove to the world that the legendary mercenary is not dead and gone. That first step will lead to a path of vengeance against the very Cipher that slaughtered so many of Snake's men, and to a battle that will embroil the whole world...

Metal Gear Online

Metal Gear Online (MGO) returns as the online multiplayer mode for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Developed by Kojima Productions' studio in Los Angeles, MGO offers players the chance to conquer enemies in an online battlefield.

MGO represents the third iteration of the popular multiplayer game, redesigned with the familiar gameplay and aesthetic styling of its companion single-player campaign. With a focus on Tactical Team Operations, the game features a class system that more uniquely defines the strengths and abilities of player characters on the battlefield.

Key characters from the series, including Venom Snake and Ocelot, will also make appearances in the anticipated multiplayer feature.

A Great End To Metal Gear Solid! Farewell Kojima!

I was very surprised at how much I liked this game so far, given what I have heard. It has taken the premise of past Metal Gear games and has expanded the game play options, encouraging you to replay exciting missions and game play sequences. It gives you a large list of weapons and items to use in missions, and lets you have fun doing it. But as a consequence the game is not one long story that you play thru to the end like previous Metal Gear Solid games, this game is broken into 50 different missions for you to play, so that you can focus on the game play rather than cutscenes. The story is there, but with fewer cutscenes and more info from tapes and logs and dialogs. But there is lots to do, 160 side missions to complete, some short some long some part of the main story, its like having those VR missions back but set in the real world (sort of). You have to manage your base, build new buildings, design new weapons, improve your equipment, and learn new ways to play. While its a little different there is a lot of fun to be had. And given that this is the last MGS game to be designed by Kojima, it is well worth the price and a great end to the true series. Who knows what Konami will do with the game from now, probably turn it into a minds action game. (sigh!)

LOVED this game! It's the first time I've played any games in this series (played a few at friend's houses but never more than a couple hours). From what I hear this is definitely different from those games as far as being open world.

Either way you can jump right into this game without playing the previous ones. The plot is apparent enough you won't be lost. (well, you won't be any more lost than anyone else because the plot is a little wacko, but I guess that's the charm of this series).

If you like open world games where you get to take out enemies in a variety of ways and either be sneaky or go full rambo I'm sure you'll like this game!

I've put about 100 hours into it and haven't completed the last few missions yet.

The game is a western style wild west shoot 'em up fest with your a-typical befuddling Japanese style of storytelling that is signature of the Metal Gear Solid series. The gameplay can be quite repetitive and frustrating. However, this game is an actual game, it is no longer an on-rails movie with bits of gameplay. It is mostly gameplay. The ability to jump in and complete a few missions casually is a welcome step in the series. I'd recommend this title, despite the story is at times lacking.

It's a great game for those that like stealth. Even if you don't it allows you many options for how you do a mission. It basically drops you in a couple different maps that are huge and tell you to do these missions. The main story missions are all enjoyable and the story is great. I found myself staying up for hours going through the missions and their is a lot of them. This game will easily give you 30 hours of game play. I don't like how it teaches you to use some of the features on your iDroid though. It basically gives a small paragraph about what this thing is and then doesn't really tell you how to use it. The missions can also take up to an hour to complete. It depends on your skill level but if you're pretty casual you might have a hard time. At times it felt like I was consistently re-trying a mission because of some dumb part that I would be waiting for. That's another thing you have to be prepared for, the waiting. This is a stealth oriented game so their are many times where the best way to get through a mission is to wait until something happens. All in all it's a great game with a great game play and story and I highly recommend it to casual and hardcore players alike.

Another good sequel to the never ending metal gear franchise metal gear solid V the phantom pain I think it's a good game though it's a bit strange and it's a take off from the previous sequel ground zero and A lot has changed the graphics are as usual fantastic but there is a few glitches in the PC version but they have updated it so I would recommend this game!

I ran this on a 3GB r9-280x, 8 GB memory and fx-8350 on stock settings.
Visuals on max settings look a bit underwhelming for a 2015 game but that is understandable since it was designed to run at 60 fps on current generation home consoles. It still looks nice however.
The framerates occasionally dipped in the 30s during FOB gameplay and heavy weather effects ( I was in windowed mode) but otherwise it runs great.
The game does not support full key mapping or editing of the FOV settings so third party software/hardware will be needed if you are picky with your layouts.

A for the actual game.
It was writing by those who come from the land of blue haired big breasted space elves, timid shield maidens, squid porn, and giant ninja robots (Japan) so some story elements can be out right cringey or nonsensical.

Gameplay can be a hit or miss. Stealth was done decently. There are LOTs of options to choose from and for the most part you as the player dictates how missions should be done so you can wipe out whole facilities michael myer style, kidnap everyone, go guns blazing or just be a ghost
There are few minor annoyances like not begin able to run up small inclines or interact with intended object in a crowded sport. Combat is a bit off though due to awkward controls and inconsistencies with weapon functionality when switching camera perspectives. Also the artificial intelligence seems to be on par with games from the playstation 2 era. There were a lot of corners cut to make the game challenging without actually making the enemies smart like low rank soldiers firing ak-47s full auto from the hip while on the move with minimum accuracy loss, enemies pointing their attention towards your general area when you detonate remote explosives while hiding, enemies share a hive mind so if anyone glances at you during the alert stage the entire location knows your pinpoint position even though that soldier you just shot in the face with suppressed pistol didn't get a chance to give a reaction.

Not too many bugs, worst I have seen is the dog companion getting stuck on random objects, a lot.
